Job Summary

Consistent with the Christian mission and vision of the YMCA of Middle TN, and in cooperation with other YMCA staff, under the direction of the Prevention Program Director, the YCAP Program Lead will be responsible for implementing and supervising prevention programming (Y-Quest) at their designated school site or community location. The YCAP Program Lead will be responsible for providing quality programming that will ensure the participants’ safety at all times and foster children’s social, physical, spiritual, and mental growth. Additional responsibilities include curriculum implementation, maintaining student records, and supporting additional site staff.

Job Responsibilities

  • Model the YMCA core values: Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility
  • Direct staff and children in the daily activities outlined; implement a prescribed curriculum and maintain daily attendance, calendars, and recordkeeping
  • Recruit and retain program participants
  • Actively lead and engage a group of middle school youth in activities outlined in the approved curriculum calendar, in both indoor and outdoor program areas and during transition times
  • Set up and take down program space so the area is transformed into a youth-friendly environment; this includes moving, cleaning, picking up and putting back furniture and equipment, and ensuring program space is left in an organized fashion
  • Assist in controlling and maintaining supplies and inventory on-site
  • Distribute and collect student evaluations
  • Attend all staff meetings and in-service training as required
  • Attend and/or conduct parent/family conferences when needed; attend events and meetings at the designated program site
  • Ensure the safety of students at all times
  • Maintain positive relationships with the YMCA, school personnel, community partners, program participants, and families
  • Carry out special projects and events as assigned by program staff

An enthusiastic personality with the desire to serve members, volunteers, guests, participants, and staff to create a culture of service within our programs

Strong interpersonal, communication skills and the ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community

  • Must present a professional image possess conflict resolution skills, and demonstrate sound judgment and initiative
  • Must be highly organized with the ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality of information
  • Minimum 18 years of age
  • College Degree preferred
  • Bilingual preferred
  • Minimum 1-year experience in youth development preferred

Certifications Required:

Before the start of 1st shift

  • New Hire Orientation training
  • DHS Background Disclosure Form & Fingerprint Appointment
  • Abuse Registry Check
  • Completed references report

Within 30 days of hire:

  • CPR/First Aid/AED (Infant/Pediatric)

Must maintain annual training requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to stand; walk on uneven surfaces; sit; handle or feel objects; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell. The employee must be able to lift up to 40 pounds. The employee may be exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level is usually minimal to moderate.
