Job Summary

The JFS Volunteer Coordinator manages numerous volunteer programs and services that are designed to maintain connections between Jewish older adults adults with disabilities and the larger Jewish community. This includes the multiple programs that are part of the Helping Hands umbrella. Also included are Shabbat services and holiday programming at area assisted living communities. Establishing and maintaining meaningful connections with both volunteers as well as those being served by these programs is an important focus.

Job Responsibilities

Direct oversight of JFS volunteer programs benefitting older adults and adults with disabilities, including, but not limited to:

  • the Helping Hands Program (Friendly Visiting, Telephone Reassurance, Pen Pals, Cyber-Seniors, Jacob’s Ladder, Helping Hands Music, and Art Programs for those living with dementia). https://jfsnashville.org/services/older-adults/
  • Shabbat services and holiday programs and deliveries at area assisted living communities
  • Facilitating a lunch twice a month including scheduling entertainment, ordering lunch, gathering RSVPs
  • Coordinating annual Senior Seder in partnership with community agencies
  • Jewish holiday deliveries/partnerships with community agencies

The Volunteer Coordinator also works with other JFS staff to respond to agency needs as they arise throughout the year and coordinates volunteers for agency projects.  Examples include School Supply drives and the Hanukkah gift program. 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (social services a plus) 
  • Experience with volunteer management and/or previous experience   working with an older adult population 
  • Ability to work cooperatively with professional staff and Jewish communal organizations 
  • Engaging & flexible personality with strong organizational skills
  • Familiarity with and sensitivity to Jewish identity (including its religious, ethical, cultural, and social values).
