Interfaith Dental is a volunteer-driven nonprofit agency that helps vulnerable populations achieve and sustain a healthy smile. Funded by donations, grants, and heavily discounted patient fees, Interfaith Dental’s mission is to create a healthier community by providing transformational oral health care for those experiencing poverty. Interfaith Dental is well known and respected statewide and has been in existence for 30 years, currently serving vulnerable populations in two clinic locations covering a ten-county region of Middle Tennessee.
The role you will play
The Volunteer Engagement Specialist (VES) will be responsible for providing oversight and leadership for Interfaith Dental’s (IFD) volunteer programs as well as equipping staff members with excellent, effective, and motivated volunteers to accomplish Interfaith Dental’s mission and vision. This position reports to the Chief Program Officer (CPO)
Job Responsibilities
The Volunteer Engagement Specialist contributes to the success of Interfaith Dental and its impact on the community by participating in a wide range of responsibilities and activities.
- Responsible for proactively achieving recruitment/retention goals for In-House Dentist (IHD) volunteers, and increasing IHD volunteer hours, year over year. The VES is responsible for scheduling an In-House Dentist volunteer for every shift based on clinical need and volunteer availability.
- Foster collaboration with partner agencies, corporations, and local colleges and universities regarding volunteers and interns.
- Guide the volunteer program to ensure effective strategies and processes for volunteer recruitment, screening, placement, training, retention, and growth.
- Cultivate relationships with dental specialists, registered dental hygienists (RDH), and registered dental assistants (RDA) in our service area. This will result in recruiting and scheduling these clinical, as well as non-clinical volunteers to provide in-house and special event services.
- Actively communicate with volunteers to maintain relationships and inform clinical activities and needs.
- Maintains positive volunteer experience during volunteer shifts for increased retention including but not limited to recognition, hospitality, and feedback from the volunteer.
- Lead volunteer recruitment and program publicity, a function requiring active outreach in the community. As such, VES is the primary outreach representative to individuals, churches, corporations, and other groups regarding volunteer opportunities at Interfaith Dental.
- Responsible for all volunteer onboarding and orientation as well as reviewing clinic policies and procedures with volunteers to comply with IFD mission and vision.
- Oversee and manage all agency volunteers including licensed professionals, interns, Smile Squad volunteers, and administrative volunteers as well as respond to all new inquiries in a professional and timely manner.
- Responsible for recording all pertinent information in the donor database (Bloomerang) and ensuring all data entry and recordkeeping for the volunteer program is completed.
- Partnering with CFO and CPO completing monthly, quarterly, and annual volunteer hours reporting for the agency.
- Quarterly licensure checks for clinical volunteers and annual CE certificate generation for volunteers and submitting to TDA.
- Support the development team, as needed, in communications initiatives and recruiting & onboarding volunteers for events, special projects, and administrative duties.
- Work with the Director of Marketing and Communications to ensure volunteer-related content is included in Interfaith Dental’s newsletter, e-newsletter, and social media platforms.
- Partner with the development team to create and implement new programs/events to present volunteers with multiple opportunities to support the clinic.
- Performs other duties and special projects as needed.
Qualifications
What you will bring
- A bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or work equivalent is required.
- A minimum of 2 years of work experience with increasing leadership roles, preferably in a nonprofit or customer service setting, is required.
- Experience working in a dental office as a registered dental assistant or registered dental hygienist is strongly preferred.
- Computer literacy and familiarity with MS Office products, especially Microsoft Excel, Publisher, Outlook, and Word is required.
- Knowledge and proficiency with social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter is required.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
- Knowledge of donor database software (Bloomerang) is strongly preferred.
- Experience with managing volunteers and/or personal accounts is strongly preferred.
- Experience with event management and coordination is required.
- Familiarity and/or contacts with corporate service programs in the Nashville area is preferred.
- Donor cultivation experience and understanding of dental-related issues as well as dental community is preferred.
- The flexibility to work some evenings and weekends as special events necessitate is required.
