Job Summary

The Mary Parrish Center (MPC) is a nonprofit human service organization dedicated to providing transitional housing, rapid rehousing, and coordinated entry for survivors of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, stalking, and/or human trafficking. Our mission is to provide survivors of interpersonal violence and their children safe, accessible, and compassionate housing with individualized care that promotes healing, autonomy, and hope.

The MPC seeks a compassionate individual to fill its Transitional Housing Advocate position. The Transitional Housing Advocate is the provision of services in our Transitional Housing Program. This is a full-time exempt position, reporting directly to the Director of Programs position.

Job Responsibilities

Provide emotional support, safety planning, flexible financial assistance, and individual case management/advocacy for survivors of domestic violence who are residing in The Mary Parrish Center’s Transitional Housing Program.

  • Provide survivor-centered case management/advocacy that includes information on public benefits, legal issues, medical care, mental health services, substance use, financial planning, and employment.
  • Provide intensive Economic Empowerment case management to help clients maximize their financial stability.
  • Provide emergency financial assistance for clients on an as-needed, case-by-case basis.
  • Collaborate with Strings for Hope and Viable to provide access to Workforce Development Programs.
  • Provide quarterly opportunities for economic empowerment workshops, such as through the Allstate Foundation’s Moving Ahead curriculum.
  • Participate in staff meetings and trainings.
  • Provide monthly enrichment activities for the transitional housing residents and their children.
  • Recruit and coordinate with volunteers to help with enrichment activities, apartment preparation and fulfill other resident needs.
  • Actively participate in appropriate community meetings.
  • Maintain client and program confidentiality.
  • Work with participants, co-workers, supervisors, community partners, and all other relevant stakeholders in a manner that is consistent with and promotes The Mary Parrish Center’s ethical commitments and organizational values.
  • Incorporate trauma-informed best practices into supportive services and advocacy work with survivors.
  • Maintain resident files, statistical records, and service documentation to meet the needs of all funding sources.
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with agencies providing services to survivors of family and sexual violence.
  • Attend appropriate community meetings, conferences, and trainings.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and implement trauma-informed care and best practices around services for at-risk individuals and families.
  • Knowledge and experience of the dynamics of interpersonal violence.
  • Knowledge and experience of transitional housing program models.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, both written and oral, and prompt response to messages.
  • Able to maintain confidentiality, as required by law and in the best interests of survivors, staff, and the agency.
  • People-oriented with a demonstrated ability to build rapport and gain trust with individuals from diverse backgrounds.  
  • Bilingual (Spanish and English) preferred.
