Job Summary

Maintains and supports technical systems and software for the organization including but not limited to servers; backups; networks; staff desktop, laptop, and mobile devices; communication systems; database software, web servers, copier/printers, applications, and software services. Provides server administration, database management, and software development with outside resources as needed. Provides training and support for both staff and membership.  The TSA will be responsible for and/or assist with procurement, configuration, installation, maintenance, production, training, support, inventory management, and research and development of these systems as well as future systems.

Job Responsibilities

Provides Systems Administration

  • Manages software, security, services, domain name registrations, DNS Hosting, and subscriptions.
  • Provides website support for all systems including continuing legal education (CLE) and membership (MemberCentral) websites.
  • Performs software maintenance, including installation, upgrades, and updates.
  • Implements customized software features to meet user needs.
  • Troubleshoots software; resolves problems; creates specifications for and coordinates with vendors or contracted developers concerning advanced modifications to the software to meet user needs.
  • Tests software; ensures data integrity across systems.
  • Maintains servers and services for file serving and storage/backups, database management, web services, device management, communications, etc., coordinating with outside vendors as needed.
  • Purchasing and inventory management of computers and equipment, as well as related items.
  • Setup and configuration of computers and equipment.

Provides User Support.

  • Trains users on the features of new applications or enhancements to existing applications.
  • Fields requests for technical assistance from end users; instructs users and resolves issues with servers, databases, and other software applications.
  • Obtains vendor assistance if needed.
  • Obtains feedback from users regarding their needs for application customization, upgrades, and reports.

Provides Database Administration

  • Determines database needs for the organization.
  • Maintains database systems and services.
  • Performs imports and exports of data including data cleansing and manipulation to ensure quality and consistency of data. Works with outside vendors where needed.
  • Develops policies and procedures for ensuring database security and integrity; develops, tests, and implements backup and recovery plans. 
  • Sets up user access permissions and privileges; monitors database user access and security for potential problems.
  • Creates standard and customized end-user reports working with web services, database software, and Excel spreadsheet software.

Maintains Network

  • Sets up new users and assigns passwords.
  • Installs, configures, and monitors all network hardware, software, and communication links; performs troubleshooting; coordinates with outside vendors as needed.

Contributes to TBA Information Technology Planning

  • Works with management to support overall TBA technology goals and objectives; analyzes new TBA work processes and technology trends to recommend systems modifications or enhancements or development of new IT solutions.
  • Participates in establishing and ensuring implementation and adherence to standards, procedures, and policies for technology usage.
  • Works with management on budget for IT activities, resources, and training.

Other Job Duties

Performs other job duties as assigned, including but not limited to:

  • Contributes to website administration; edits and implements content including some source code.
  • Administers VoIP communication system.
  • Assists TBA members with online access to TBA member services and CLE programming.
  • Provides backup audio-visual support for recording live and streamed content.

Critical Competencies

Understanding of computer operations management, server and systems administration, network administration, and database management is required. Extensive experience with Macintosh computers and Mac OS is necessary.  Strong MySQL database management and report generation skills are needed.

Equipment Operated

Computers, routers, network switches, servers, storage devices, software, printers, and VoIP communication systems. Other equipment as required due to changes in office needs or technology.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk or listen. The employee frequently is required to use hands or fingers and handle or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment: The incumbent works in an office environment (currently hybrid). The noise level in the work environment is typically low to moderate. Occasional overnight travel is required. There will be times when more than 40 hours in a week and working unusual hours of the day and weekends will be required.

Qualifications

Education and Experience: The required knowledge, skill, and abilities to satisfactorily perform job duties are normally acquired through the attainment of an associate or bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a related discipline, plus five years of 

systems and database administration experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma.

The successful candidate should have the following preferred skills: 

  • Five-plus years providing technical support and services for multiple-person organizations.
  • Two plus years providing technical support and services in a dominant Mac-based organization.
  • Strong communication abilities.
  • Strong customer service abilities.
  • Understands programming and database administration, as well as management of systems and equipment. Experience working with the Apple operating system and web technology. Familiarity with communications, audio/visual equipment and software, Windows OS, and Linux OS is a plus.

Required Certifications/Licenses: Must possess a valid Tennessee driver’s license.
