Job Summary

The Retail Store Manager will lead their team to accomplish ThriftSmart’s sales, operations, and community impact goals. The Northeast Nashville Store Manager will launch a new 31,000 square-foot storefront during a short startup window, then transition to managing a team of 25+ individuals that offer the best thrift experience in North Nashville.

Job Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Direct and monitor sales of donated products and related activities.
  • Direct and monitor shipping and receiving operations.
  • Achieve daily production and sales goals informed by personal involvement in daily operations.
  • Monitor customer preferences to determine the focus of sales efforts.
  • Determine and regulate pricing tiers to achieve sales goals in a highly competitive thrift context.
  • Use store performance metrics and industry trends to project sales.
  • Prepare budgets and control costs to meet monthly profitability targets.
  • Maintain store record-keeping for retail activities, personnel, and contracted services.
  • Ensure customer satisfaction in the retail environment and swiftly resolve issues.
  • Manage staffing and training; conduct performance evaluations and identify opportunities for staff development.
  • Open and close store; monitor store security.
  • Coordinate both proactive and responsive daily maintenance for store facilities.
  • Build relationships with community partners to achieve donation, sales, and community impact goals.
  • Contribute to the success of broader ThriftSmart initiatives.
  • Provide surge support to teams and stores as required.
  • Work full-time schedule (40+ hours), adjusting availability Sunday-Saturday according to store and team needs.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum Education: Undergraduate Study or 10 years experience in a relevant field
  • Minimum Experience: 5 Years in Retail
  • Preferred Education: Degree in Sales, Business, and Management fields
  • Preferred Experience: Sales and Managerial Experience

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • The candidate should be able to physically manage the tasks and responsibilities detailed in this job description. Physical activities related to store management may include sitting, walking, sorting and placement of products, bending, squatting, climbing, lifting items weighing up to 50 pounds, and others.
  • Willingness and ability to drive commercial transport vehicles and/or forklifts.

PERSONNEL MANAGEMENT

  • Hire, train, and develop a team of 25+ performing a wide range of functions.
  • Contribute to the personal and professional development of the entire ThriftSmart team by introducing opportunities for training, cross-functional projects, and ladders to more responsibility.
  • Integrate volunteers and interns meaningfully into store operations.
  • Cultivate a culture of teamwork, communication, empathy, and creativity among all team members.
