Position Title: Staff Accountant
Reports to: Finance Director
Direct Reports: None

The Tennessee Primary Care Association (TPCA) is a dynamic, team-oriented membership association that provides leadership, advocacy, and supportive expertise to the state’s community health centers. The Staff Accountant works closely with the Finance Director to ensure TPCA’s financial stability by performing general cost accounting and other related duties for the organization. This includes the preparation and maintenance of financial records, as well as the management and administration of staff-related compensation and benefits.

Job Responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Accurately process and reconcile a variety of accounting documents including invoices, vendor statements, cash receipts, employee reimbursements, and purchase orders.
  • Review and code association’s financial information.
  • Prepare and code documents to disburse funds.
  • Prepare and enter journal entries.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements.
  • Provide analysis of accounts to Finance Director
  • Assist in preparation of internal and external grant reports.
  • Maintain accounting, payroll, and benefits-related records.
  • Maintain proficiency in TPCA’s purchasing, invoicing, and database systems.
  • Maintains knowledge of acceptable accounting practices and procedures.
  • Proactively work with TPCA staff and external customers and vendors.
  • Assist Finance Director with other related tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of general financial accounting and cost accounting.
  • Understanding of and the ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software, and accounting software.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data.
  • Ability to manage several projects concurrently and adapt to changes in project requirements and/or the work environment.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, or related field, required.
  • At least three years of related experience required; non-profit experience preferred.
  • Proficiency with automated accounting software, Blackbaud a plus.
  • Knowledge of accounting/bookkeeping terminology and practices.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

  • Hybrid work schedule.
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
  • Occasional travel to health centers, as well as local and national travel.
