Job Summary

Global Sanctuary for Elephants, a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit headquartered in Brentwood, Tennessee, seeks a creative and driven professional who will grow its online presence. The plight of captive elephants and the benefits of sanctuary are not fully understood by much of the general public. The Social Media Specialist is responsible for educating the public, sharing the reality of captivity for elephants, allowing our followers to get to know the elephants, and helping GSE reach its full potential. As a dedicated team player, you will collaborate with the Senior Editor, Co-founder, and Development Director to ensure the organization’s mission and messaging are integrated to provide the most powerful impact on social media channels.

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute the day-to-day implementation of social media strategies to increase brand awareness and engagement, respond to comments, engage with communities, foster relationships, etc.
  • Collaborate with staff to align social media with GSE programs, initiatives, and campaigns.
  • Create, schedule, and publish content on various social media platforms, as determined by strategies and leadership.
  • Build meaningful connections and encourage community members through dialog and messaging.
  • Creating, reporting, and corresponding for Facebook fundraising.
  • Prepare and maintain a yearly social media content calendar that details at least three months out while maintaining flexibility during rescues and emergencies.
  • Monitor social media channels for trends, best practices, user engagement, and similar organization’s activities.
  • Provide regular reports and analysis across key performance metrics with insights for optimization and strategy adjustments.
  • Organize, catalog, and manage digital assets, including images, videos, documents, and other media.
  • Keep abreast of the latest technologies and platforms.
  • Attend, photograph, and report on events when possible.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Degree in marketing/communications, digital media, or equivalent professional experience preferred
  • Experience in social media marketing at a nonprofit agency or corporate environment
  • Understanding of social media KPIs, web traffic metrics, and SEO
  • Proficiency in social media management tools and analytics platforms such as Later, Meta Suite, etc.
  • Online communication diplomacy and rules of etiquette knowledge required
  • Creative thinking and the ability to adapt to changing trends and suggest new approaches to current social media plan
  • Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Premiere) skills preferred
  • Highly fluent in Facebook, Instagram, X (Twitter), and TikTok. Knowledge of Discord
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Benefits

Full Time, Non-Exempt, Remote position, preference for being located in Nashville, TN area. Flexible Work Schedule (does require some availability to work between 8:00 am – 5:00 pm Mon-Fri). Additional/change in hours required during rescues and emergencies. Flexible work arrangement in a permanent work-from-home remote position.
