Job Summary

The Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum is #hiring!

The role of the Senior Manager of Institutional Giving is to secure grant funding from local, regional, state, and federal government sources, as well as private foundations, in support of the museum’s collections, exhibits, education programming, and general operations.

This highly skilled and motivated individual will serve as an advocate for the arts on local and national levels, providing excellent stewardship to institutional partners who make gifts of time, talent, and treasure in support of the Museum’s mission-focused work.

Job Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Grant Research and Management:
    • Conduct in-depth research to identify government and foundation grant opportunities that align with museum programs and services.
    • Develop and maintain a comprehensive grant calendar within the museum’s online database (Tessitura), ensuring all application steps are tracked effectively.
    • Collaborate with content experts, including curators, artists, librarians, and educators, to produce compelling proposals, budgets, reports, and supplementary materials for grant submissions.
  2. Grant Prospect Vetting:
    • Collaborate closely with the Museum Services department to identify potential grant-funded projects and evaluate prospective government funding sources such as the National Endowment for the Humanities, National Historical Publications and Records Commission, and Institute of Museum and Library Services.
    • Work in conjunction with the Education department and the Manager of Advancement, Education and Community Outreach to identify grant opportunities and assess funding sources like the National Endowment for the Arts and major private foundations.
  3. Program Planning and Evaluation:
    • Implement Logic Model program planning and evaluation methodologies, working alongside program teams to define measurable outcomes resulting from participants’ interactions with the museum.
    • Collaborate with the Manager of Advancement, Education and Community Engagement on state and metro general operating grants and other relevant applications.
  4. Grant Administration and Compliance:
    • Act as the lead administrator for relevant museum grant awards from government and foundation sources, ensuring accurate representation of programs and activities.
    • Oversee post-award compliance of government and foundation grant contracts, meeting funder deadlines and maintaining strong stewardship practices.
    • Manage the existing government and foundation grant portfolio, including report writing and record maintenance, to ensure adherence to proposal conditions and expectations.
    • Nominate museum programs and exhibitions for award competitions, such as the Alliance of American Museums’ annual awards, in collaboration with the appropriate departments.
  5. Financial Management and Online Certifications:
    • Collaborate with the museum’s finance department to develop grant budgets and manage grant income and expenses. Provide necessary information for the annual financial audit.
    • Oversee the museum’s online presence in funder portals, including Giving Matters, GuideStar, System of Award Management (SAM), and grants.gov.
    • Renew the museum’s TN charitable solicitation permit, and permits for other states if required, while ensuring compliance with government regulations.

General Development Department Functions:

  • Act as a passionate advocate for the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum’s mission within the public community and internally.
  • Attend weekly Development Department meetings.
  • Provide support for select after-hours events.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Minimum of five years of grant writing and/or institutional giving experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in staff supervision.
  • Track record of securing and administering major federal grants.
  • Proven ability to generate and qualify institutional prospects.
  • Experience managing a portfolio of 50-plus major donors.
  • Passion for the arts, museums, and country music.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively and tactfully with diverse populations.
  • Strong conflict resolution skills and ability to respond to inquiries efficiently.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working in a museum environment.
  • Proficiency in using the Tessitura database or similar CRM systems.
