Position: Security Guard

Department: Safety/Security 

Supervisor: Security Supervisor and Environmental Health Director,  Security &Safety Manager

The Nashville Zoo Security and Safety Department is looking for a few good people to round out our security team. All shifts are currently available: day, swing, and overnight. Security Guards work various scheduled shifts throughout each 24-hour period, seven days a week, including working weekends, holidays, and after-hour events as assigned.

We are looking for dedicated professionals with demonstrated experience in security operations, law enforcement, military, or other public safety professions. First Aid and EMS experience is a plus. To be successful, you must bring a desire to protect and serve others, provide world-class customer service to our guests, and work as part of a team.

Description: The Security Guard is responsible for maintaining the park in a safe and secure condition. The Security Guard will perform patrols throughout their work shift and address any Guest and/or Staff security concerns that may emerge. Security Guard is responsible for protecting zoo assets. Security Guard will be responsible for communication of Severe Weather responses and participate in all of the zoo’s emergency protocols. Security Guard is responsible for the coordination of parking guests when required.

Shift Schedules

1st Shift: 8:30 am -5:30 pm

2nd Shift: 2 pm – 10 pm

3rd Shift: 10 pm – 6 am

Job Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for performing park-wide security patrols throughout assigned shifts.
  • Responsible for identifying any incidents and reporting them to the direct supervisor.
  • Responsible for monitoring weather conditions and communicating status to zoo staff and guests when action is required.
  • Responsible for ensuring that the zoo’s security systems are in working order.
  • Responsible for coordinating staff efforts in efficiently parking guests when they arrive and assisting them when exiting.
  • Responsible for maintaining a daily activity report and preparation of incident reports for any occurrences during the shift.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Skills:

  • Ability to work with little or no supervision.
  • Ability to interact professionally with both staff and visitors.
  • Ability to respond to guest disturbances in a fashion that minimizes any negative effect on the zoo and our other guests.
  • Ability to prepare accurate written daily incident reports and logs at the end of each shift.
  • Ability to effectively orally communicate emergency situations and initiate responses to all staff and our guests when required.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to work outside year-round in inclement weather conditions such as extreme high/low temperatures, snow, and rain conditions. Must be able to stand or walk for extended periods of time, have the ability to bend, stoop, extend oneself, etc., required to perform assigned tasks. Must be able to lift and carry a minimum of 50 pounds.

Education:

Minimum High School diploma or GED equivalent required. Must have a valid driver’s license. Must have a minimum of 2 years of experience working in the Security field. Must have a minimum of two years of experience working directly with the public.
