The Counselor Role: 

Jewish Middle School of Nashville is seeking a Part-time Counselor to serve our student body, 5th-8th grades. The counselor will be responsible for creating and implementing a comprehensive counseling program by providing preventive services, responding to identified student needs, and collaborating with teachers and parents or guardians. This role requires flexibility, creative problem-solving, and effective collaboration with teachers, administrators, students, and parents. A solid grounding in child and adolescent development is essential. We are seeking an individual who finds true joy in facilitating growth in adolescents and working directly with students

Job Responsibilities

  • Serving as an engaged, creative, energized, collaborative, and committed member of JMS staff
  • Developing and delivering an exceptional, engaging, developmentally appropriate, research-backed weekly social-emotional learning curriculum to students
  • Providing individual and group counseling services to students in academic and social-emotional realms
  • Providing crisis intervention and support services on a temporary basis for students as needs arise
  • Appropriately referring families to outside professionals and collaborating with them to develop and implement student support as needed
  • Offering faculty and staff support and collaboration to address social-emotional or behavioral needs of students
  • Attending regularly scheduled staff meetings and in-service as agreed upon
  • Participating in school duties such as recess or lunch duty
  • Attending appropriate professional development workshops

Qualifications

  • Masters degree in a counseling related field – School Counselor Certification, Licensed Professional Counselor Certification, or Masters in Social Work
  • 3 years of related experience preferred
  • Experience teaching children or adolescents
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work both collaboratively and independently
  • Experience working with children with learning differences and behavior challenges is preferred
