Job Summary

Make a transformative difference in the daily lives of individuals with developmental and/or intellectual disabilities who are living in affordable housing provided in an integrated, supportive environment.  Our Place Nashville is seeking candidates for the position of Resident Support Specialist to join our growing team as we help our residents – individuals with IDD and their neurotypical housemates – live independently with success. The position will join our Resident Support team, reporting to the Executive and Associate Directors (and, if seeking licensure, to a Clinical Supervisor).

Job Responsibilities

  • Supports Residents who may be in independent housing for the first time, creating a smooth transition towards independent living in a community. 
  • Works with the Resident Support team to help provide behavioral and/or mental health assessments to determine safety risks, existing supports, and needed supports.
  • Implements person-centered practices and utilizes strengths-based perspective.
  • Identifies community resources available to meet an individual’s needs.
  • Communicates effectively with individuals, their families, and OPN staff to help residents access and navigate services.
  • Facilitates communication between residents and the property managers around areas of property maintenance and other housing issues.
  • Keeps and stores records according to OPN protocols.
  • Helps facilitate weekly independent life skills classes on a variety of topics.
  • Facilitates community-focused social and educational events throughout the year alongside the OPN team.
  • Provides occasional evening hours for meetings, programming, and resident consultations.  This will vary from month to month.
  • Builds partnerships to recruit future residents, helping conduct future resident interviews to assess suitability for the different communities. 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field.
  • Applicants with experience in one or more of the following areas are preferred:
  • Experience working with individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities, their families, and other professionals who work with people with disabilities.
  • Experience working with adults with physical disabilities, older adults, and individuals from a variety of socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and oral skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft programs, and some familiarity with Mac OS.
  • Ability to maintain a flexible schedule and self-direct at times.

Additional Information

Benefits

Paid federal holidays and 10 days paid vacation after 60 days of employment. Two weeks of paid family leave, with an additional four weeks unpaid leave if needed. Up to $400/month health insurance reimbursement.  If a job candidate is seeking licensure, the cost of clinical supervision will be shared by Our Place Nashville.
