About NAMI Davidson Co: NAMI Davidson Co. is an affiliated chapter of the National Alliance of Mental Illness. NAMI is the largest peer-to-peer organization in the country. It provides support, education, advocacy, and awareness for people with mental health issues and their families. NAMI Davidson Co. provides free evidence-based support groups, education classes, individual, and policy advocacy; and general, faith, multicultural, and youth outreach. The agency is also a reliable source of information and referral services in the mental health field. Most services are free. Though outreach is formally offered throughout Davidson County, at least 30% of individuals served come from throughout Middle Tennessee and the United States. Services are offered with compassion, dignity, and a goal of empowerment toward personal potential. 

The Recovery Coordinator is a new position with NAMI Davidson. The role of the Recovery Coordinator is to provide support, motivation, and program coordination for activities that move persons with mental health issues from seclusion to supported employment, incarceration re-entry, and personal or community engagement. This individual should be someone with lived experience, 2 years post-crisis, with solid self-awareness, and good well-being maintenance practices. CPRS are welcome and must be willing to train in peer support models and participate, once trained in group facilitation. Must also be comfortable in public engagement and be prepared to provide already developed PowerPoint presentations. 

Part-time Position: minimum 20 hours per week. In office Mondays. Additional time may be required in person during the week for business, or outreach related to the position. The balance of hours can be flexed from home. Some Saturdays, Sundays, or evenings may be required to meet requests for outreach.

Job Responsibilities

Duties:

  • Managing, growing, and attending NAMI Davidson’s monthly Rock Garden recovery program, in collaboration with Vanderbilt Social Work Fellowship program.
  • Develops relationships with the Tennessee Department of Wellbeing and Employment, American Job Services, Goodwill, and related services for referral and support services
  • Participates in the development and facilitation of NAMI Davidson’s twice monthly recovery peer-to-peer social groups and other engagement activities.  
  • Presents on the efforts of the recovery program, and other related presentations as requested.
  • Maintains records and statistics on activities and creates grant reports as required by grantors.
  • Participates in NAMI Davidson fundraisers
  • Attends mental health committee meetings such as Park Center, Region IV, and SPAAFCC
  • Coordinating the distribution of the NAMI Davidson’s Early Recovery Guide to peers and families
  • Coordinating with persons in recovery, and community agencies in progressive recovery programs to reach supported employment and/or education goals.
  • Contacting psychiatry and counseling practices, discharge planners, and social workers at mental health hospitals, connecting with faith communities, diverse communities, and related nonprofits to promote the program to prospective participants.
  • Other duties as requested.

Qualifications

Qualities:

  • Natural problem solver.  
  • Able to adapt and flex with activities of the day, or situations that arise.
  • Experienced in diffusing crisis.
  • Good physical mobility, willingness, and ability to work in multiple environments.
  • Knowledge of NAMI programs, or the ability to train in current models.
  • Good networker, comfortable public speaker, and leadership skills.
  • Multilingual, especially inclusive of Spanish, Kurdish, Egyptian, or Arabic, is a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degrees in psychology, social work, public policy, sociology, nursing, or teaching, are all welcome.
  • Personal/peer experience is relevant. Self-knowledge and a resilient spirit are especially appreciated. Non-judgmental.
  • Respect for people in a recovery journey, personally, or as a family member, and a desire, or history of support and advocacy for their rights and needs within systems are valued in this role.

Requirements:

  • Effective, professional, and empathetic communicator, utilizing discretion as needed
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suites i.e. Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Publisher
  • Knows, or is willing to learn about, Google Docs/Drive, Dropbox, and other data entry or data management programs.
  • Experienced in the use of general office technology i.e. printer/copier/scanner/fax.
  • Well organized, and neat with an ability to prepare, collate, organize, and maintain files.
  • Willingness and ability to establish new professional relationships to further program goals.
  • Professional appearance and demeanor.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Must be able to lift and transport boxes up to 25 lbs.
  • May be asked to train in the BRIDGES lived experience model of peer support and education.
