Job Summary

FiftyForward has an excellent opportunity for a Program Assistant at our La Vergne location.  This is a full-time position with regular weekday hours.  In this role, you will create a positive member experience by providing a superior level of service to members, prospective members, and guests.  The Program Assistant engages with members and assists the Program Manager in providing high-quality, dynamic educational, social, and recreational programming for older adults of varying activity levels.

Job Responsibilities

What you’ll do:

  • Assist with program initiatives that adhere to organizational and departmental objectives and ensure goals are reached.  Work closely with supervisor in executing overall FiftyForward, center, and program goals.
  • Assist the Program Manager in implementing and evaluating Center activities to offer the highest-quality service to members. Maintain necessary supplies and equipment to accomplish activities.
  • Monitor, encourage, assist, and lead center members in programs to ensure the effective flow of the day at the center. Assist with the provision of meals and snacks.
  • Coordinate with other staff and volunteers in implementing center activities.
  • Identify and escalate program issues in a timely manner to the supervisor.
  • Assist with participant paperwork, program recordkeeping, and upkeep of membership databases including data entry, data clean-up, and completion of reports to meet program requirements and deadlines.
  • Assist in opening and closing the building in accordance with safety and security standards.
  • Prepare center for programs; including set up and break down of tables and chairs, audiovisual equipment, and cleaning before and after activities. Keep the center neat, clean, and orderly through daily and weekly cleaning of all areas. Keep displays and bulletin boards organized and current.
  • May drive or coordinate driving of agency vehicle, as applicable, for day trips; must follow all agency vehicle rules and protocols.
  • Attend staff meetings and other meetings as required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

What we require:

Skills

  • Demonstrated skills in organization, customer service, and time and task management.
  • Ability to actively listen, giving full attention to other people’s needs; takes time to understand the points being made and asks questions as appropriate without interruptions.
  • Familiarity with (or ability to learn) Microsoft Office programs including Outlook (calendar); database management and maintaining electronic data files and records.
  • Ability to shift priorities quickly and unexpectedly. 
  • Excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to be flexible and work cooperatively with internal and external customers.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • Must have a deep commitment to our mission and values.
  • A valid TN driver’s license including a good motor vehicle record, and appropriate automobile insurance.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent education required. Associate’s degree in social service, recreation, or related field preferred.
  • 1 – 3 years’ professional experience working with older adults preferred.
  • 1 – 3 years experience in the activity or recreation field preferred.
  • CPR/First Aid Certification or willingness to be trained; maintains knowledge of AED (defibrillator); ServSafe certification or willingness to be trained.
