Job Summary

Description of Responsibilities 

The Patron Engagement Manager will serve as a direct liaison between the Nashville Symphony and an assigned group of patrons. These positions are charged with securing financial contributions and renewing ticket subscriptions from our core group of supporters.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Maintains a portfolio of current donors and subscribers for renewal purposes
  2. Establishes and cultivates relationships with Symphony patrons
  3. Works independently to initiate contact with renewal and lapsed donors and subscribers
  4. Determines the capacity of patrons to make major gifts and devises appropriate strategies for cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship
  5. Attends cultivation and stewardship activities, including but not limited to concerts, receptions, and meet & greets
  6. Serves as primary contact for questions and general Symphony information for assigned patrons
  7. Serves as a contributing member of the Development Department by working to achieve individual and departmental goals
  8. Works in collaboration with the development team, strategize and plan for an ongoing program that will identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward a base of well-informed and highly engaged donors, creating strategies for each individual donor
  9. Assume responsibility for special projects or other activities as directed by the VP of Development and Chief Development Officer

The duties listed above are not all-inclusive. The person in this position is expected to perform other work-related duties as assigned even though they may not be considered primary duties.

Job Responsibilities

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Possess an understanding of individual donor needs and perceptions
  • Ability to facilitate cultivation strategies
  • Background in Arts and/or knowledge of symphonic music preferred
  • Punctuality, dependability, a strong work ethic, and the ability to exercise good judgment are a must
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Outstanding capacities for personal presentation, organization, self-motivation, accuracy, follow-through, timeliness, consistency, great attention to detail, and the ability to handle a multitude of tasks under deadline pressure
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite is required; knowledge of Tessitura preferred
  • The ability to handle confidential information with an appreciation for the importance of protecting the privacy of donors and prospects is vital
  • Ability to work independently and use independent judgment while keeping supervisor informed of work activity and issues
  • Ability to effectively interact with all levels of staff, volunteers, donors, and prospects
  • Ability to work as part of a team, with a positive, helpful attitude in developing creative responses and solutions to needs and issues
  • Ability to work flexible hours to accommodate meetings as well as cultivation and special events

Education

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education or experience preferred 

Experience

Previous development experience or an equivalent combination of inside sales/customer service experience required
