SUMMARY

The Learning and Development Specialist is responsible for designing, implementing, and managing training and development programs at Nurture the Next.  This role focuses on enhancing the skills, knowledge, and competencies of employees to improve performance, productivity, and overall organizational growth.  The Learning and Development Specialist collaborates with various departments to identify training needs, develop appropriate learning materials, and facilitate training sessions. providing support to employees and supporting the growth of the company. The Learning Specialist will work closely with the HR Generalist to implement a learning program that is aligned with company goals, values, and mission.

Job Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Act as a change agent to promote a culture of adaptability/continuous learning and skill enhancement/professional growth within the organization
  • Collaborate with departmental managers to identify skills gaps and training needs across the organization
  • Analyze performance data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement
  • Design and develop training programs, workshops, and materials that align with organizational goals and objectives
  • Maintain accurate records of training activities, participant attendance, and program evaluation
  • Prepare regular reports for the senior leadership team on the outcomes and impact of workforce development efforts
  • Facilitate training sessions through various formats, including in-person workshops, virtual classrooms, and webinars
  • Adapt training techniques to meet the diverse learning styles of participants
  • Foster an inclusive and participatory learning environment that encourages active engagement and knowledge retention
  • Coordinate the logistics of training programs, including scheduling, venue selection, and technology setup
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of training initiatives through participant feedback, assessments, and performance metrics
  • Continuously refine and update training materials to reflect changes in processes, technologies, and industry trends

  • Provide one-on-one coaching and guidance to employees seeking to enhance their skills and competencies or work with team leads to conduct one-on-one sessions
  • Collaborate with managers to create individual development plans that align with career aspirations and organizational goals
  • Support employees in their professional growth journey and track their progress over time
  • Work closely with subject matter experts, department heads, and other relevant stakeholders to ensure training content accuracy and relevance
  • Keep an accessible library of training that can be accessed any time, anywhere as needed (Learning Management System)
  • Developing communications plans and materials to support learning and development initiatives.
  • Participate in new hire orientation, onboarding activities, and offboarding processes.
  • Promote, adhere, and demonstrate our organization’s values
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance and meet required deadlines
  • Collaborate with other agencies, provide outreach, and advocate for NTN’s programs
  • Assure the components and standards of all our programs are met and maintained
  • Respect and maintain confidential information in all situations
  • Follow organizational policies, make recommendations for change, and lead the implementation of changes
  • Ensure that training logs are updated across the agency
  • Participate in major fundraising events benefitting NTN, community awareness events that promote the agency and its programs, and program activities of the organization, no matter the individual role
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Solid understanding and experience in training and motivating staff
  • Experience in working with culturally diverse organizations
  • Demonstrated communication, presentation, and facilitation skills
  • Ability to self-direct daily work tasks and practice effective time management
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to collaborate as part of a team
  • Microsoft Office, email, internet; Must be able to meet documentation requirements
  • Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license
  • Strong understanding of adult learning principles, instructional design methodologies, and training evaluation techniques.
  • Ability to collaborate with various stakeholders and build effective partnerships.
  • Familiarity with industry-specific trends and developments related to workforce skills and training.
  • Proficiency in learning management systems (LMS) and other training-related technologies.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in training development, human resources, or related with 3 years of relevant experience in the design and development of learning initiatives and materials. Less than a bachelor’s degree will be considered with more than 5 years of L&D experience.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to position themselves in a sitting position, talk, and/or hear (with or without aide). The employee is regularly required to remain stationary, use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to keyboard and enter data at a computer. The employee is frequently required to operate a motor vehicle, move throughout homes or buildings, and may be required to climb stairs in family homes and in a variety of community-based and home settings. The employee must learn new tasks, remember processes, maintain focus, complete tasks independently, make timely decisions in the context of a workflow, and communicate with program participants and community partners. FSS must have the ability to complete tasks with speed in situations that ensure the safety of children. Employees must move supplies and equipment up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include vision, the ability to adjust focus, and operate a vehicle safely. The employee must have access to reliable transportation. Employees are required daily to remain alert and engaged to safely operate vehicles and ensure the safety of small children. The work environment includes indoor office environments or comparable spaces, families’ homes, and community spaces, with frequent exposure to outdoor weather when traveling to home visits and meetings. The noise level varies by sites, home visits, and meetings.

TRAVEL

Occasional out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.
