Job Summary

The Health & Fitness Coordinator is responsible for assisting, implementing, and coordinating fitness and health programs that support long-term health of Special Olympics athletes.  This position is responsible for collaborating with the Director of Health and Fitness on capturing health and fitness data, while developing and sustaining fitness, health, and Young Athletes programming. Additional responsibilities in supporting program Fitness & Health initiatives are expected in the scope of work.

Job Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute high-quality health & fitness programming and education
  • Create relationships with health and fitness community partners and facilities
  • Collect and assess health data through fitness programming
  • Assist in the development of Special Olympics Tennessee’s health & fitness curriculum.
  • Responsible for other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications

  • Two years’ experience of a qualifying nature with a sports, health and fitness background developed through coaching and/or administration.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and project a positive image and ability to work with volunteers and delegate duties.
  • Promote a positive culture within committees.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions and requirements of the job.
  • Paid or volunteer experience working with individuals with intellectual disabilities preferred.
  • English/Spanish bilingual preferred.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in Physical Education, Recreation, Sports Management, Sports Administration or equivalent with Fitness/Health Certification.
  • Paid or volunteer experience working with individuals with intellectual disabilities preferred.

  • Must be self-motivated
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills including public speaking
  • Ability to multi-task effectively
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work with diverse personalities and in stressful situations
  • Ability to motivate and manage volunteers
  • Ability to build effective relationships with a variety of organizations
  • Proficiency in using relevant technology, including Microsoft Office, Google Docs, and database systems.
  • Willingness to travel and to work evenings and weekends to meet job requirements
  • Have a valid Tennessee driver’s license and meet minimum Tennessee vehicle insurance requirements.
  • All employees must pass a drug and criminal background screening.

COMPENSATION: Commensurate with experience. Special Olympics Tennessee provides health/dental insurance, life insurance policy, paid time off, Fridays off during June and July, and a 401K match.
