Job Summary

The NMAAM Grants Manager will meet and exceed revenue generation goals through all aspects of raising support from foundations, corporations, and government sources requiring proposals for both unrestricted operating revenue and restricted projects, while also tapping into both competitive and noncompetitive funding opportunities whenever possible.

Job Responsibilities

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Work with development team and other staff to produce sufficient number and quality of prospects to produce extensive institutional donor profiles, target appropriate ask amounts and prioritize and evaluate prospects for corporate, foundation, and government grants.
  • Undertakes regular prospect research and documents this work to determine whether or not there is a grantor match with one or more aspects of the museum’s mission-directed work.
  • Generate proposals for unique projects and programs, unique institutional and individual funders.
  • Produces all proposals, budgets, reports, and other ancillary materials.
  • Develop and prioritize projects and proposals, organize and facilitate cross functional teams as needed.
  • Work with staff to elicit projects and programs that need support, manage monthly meetings to vet projects and programs and set priorities for funding.
  • Oversees all pre-award and post award research activities.
  • Oversees the post-award review of all funding including government and non-government grants and foundation awards on behalf of the departments and its functional groups to assure institutional and sponsor compliance, budgetary appropriateness, and compliance of grant and contract awards to applicable governmental guidelines.
  • Submits fiscal reports as required. Manages requests to re-budget when necessary.
  • Provide stewardship for existing funders.
  • Manage existing grants by tracking grants, developing internal reporting systems, writing reports, maintaining excellent historical records and working with staff to ensure each project or program is meeting proposal conditions and expectations.
  • Develop and foster relationships with institutional funders by finding personal connections with staff and stakeholders that will ensure the attention of institutional funders.
  • Participate in internal or external audits of department grants/contracts by providing information and documentation as requested and take appropriate action following audit reviews.
  • Monitor grants income goal.
  • Assist with other development projects as requested.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Leadership skills with ability to institute a collaborative approach to grants acquisition.
  • Project management skills with ability to lead and execute projects from conception to completion through a team-based environment.
  • Innovative problem solving skills.
  • Knowledge of fundraising information sources.
  • Experience with proposal writing and institutional donors.
  • Proven track record with institutional donors.
  • Knowledge of advanced fundraising techniques and strategies.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with research techniques for fundraising prospect research.
  • Experience with budget development and monitoring.
  • Experience in program development.
  • Knowledge of contracts and agreements preferred.
  • Demonstrated skills in analyzing data and formulating conclusions.
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing with all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects/tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to create and effectively deliver verbal and written reports.
  • Excellent computer skills with all Microsoft Office program

All Staff Duties:

  • Serves as leader to assure strong communications between NMAAM and all external constituents.
  • Actively seeks to learn the history of NMAAM.
  • Supports and promotes the museum’s mission.
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of special events.
  • Attend staff meetings.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Work requires communications, analytical and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelor’s degree program. Masters preferred.
  • Research or grants education and/or certification is preferred.
  • Minimum of three years’ experience with grant writing and management.
  • Proven track record of successful acquisition of major grants from foundations, corporations and/or government sources.
