POSITION OVERVIEW 

The Formal Programs Manager leads a team of classroom educators who create and deliver dynamic programs within Adventure Science Center’s classrooms and science lab. You’ll create dynamic experiences across the fields of science for audiences including K-12 field trips, youth camps, and general visitors. 

You’ll be responsible for creating and updating programs, training other educators, and delivering the programs on a weekly basis. If you love teaching and science and want to reach thousands of learners of all ages each year, this opportunity is for you! 

Job Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS  

  • Research, develop, and present classroom programs, such as labs, dissections, and camp classes. 
  • Train staff and volunteers on program content, interpretative strategies, and best practices. 
  • Conduct regular quality control checks to ensure program presenters maintain a high standard of excellence. 
  • Maintain the necessary supplies and equipment to operate the classrooms and science lab. 
  • Supervise the full- and part-time Learning Specialists, including professional development and staff support. 
  • Serve as the hiring manager for the position of Learning Specialist. 
  • Track and report program attendance. 
  • Assist with other guest programs as assigned. 
  • Other duties as deemed necessary by program need and/or management. 

Qualifications

SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND TRAITS 

  • Strong understanding of, and experience with, learning environments such as classrooms and laboratories. 
  • Familiarity with the principles of inquiry-based learning. 
  • Strong presentation skills including demonstrated effectiveness in working with classroom audiences.  
  • Detail-oriented; excellent & proactive planning, problem-solving solving, and organizational skills. 
  • Ability to effectively engage visitors with different learning styles. 
  • Ability to multi-task and stay calm under pressure, adapt to changing environments. 
  • A strong commitment to customer service is essential. 
  • Understanding of the importance and value of working as part of a larger cross-functional and intra-departmental team in a professional, courteous, and collaborative manner. 
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint). 

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, science, or related field required. Master’s degree preferred. 
  • Prior teaching experience in a classroom-based setting (school or museum) is required. 
  • Prior program or curriculum development experience is required. 
  • Minimum 1 year of supervisory experience required. 
  • Evidence of creative and innovative thinking. 
  • Professional appearance and demeanor. 

Customer Service 

  • Proactively engage guests in personal, inspiring interactions while showing genuine enthusiasm about ASC. 
  • Anticipate guest needs and solve issues or concerns with a positive, courteous, respectful, professional attitude. 
  • Interact on all phone calls with the same positive, helpful, courteous, respectful, and professional attitude. 

Operational Support 

  • Learn and perform core operational functions of guest safety and wayfinding. 
  • Learn and carry out emergency procedures and protocols for incidents when necessary. 

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 

  • The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts requiring normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting and training rooms, use of safe work practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, and observance of fire regulations. 
  • Typically, walking, standing, bending, and carrying light items (up to 40 pounds unassisted) are required.  At times, the employee may sit comfortably to do the work. Also, the employee must have manual dexterity, and visual and auditory acuity sufficient to accomplish assigned tasks. 
  • Some repetitive motion is involved. 
  • Work schedule and work hours are variable based on operation requirements, but will typically be Sunday – Thursday.
