Job Summary

St. Cecilia Academy is seeking a Coach for the Forensics Team. This team competes in speech and debate tournaments throughout the school year, and meets approximately once a week after school to practice for competitions. Interested candidates should have experience in speech competitions and be witnesses of personal integrity committed to the Roman Catholic mission and vision of St. Cecilia Academy. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience with Catholic institutions.

Job Responsibilities

• Direct and guide the selection of performance pieces; assist students in preparing for performances
• Hold weekly Forensics Team meetings and rehearsals
• Guide team members in writing speeches
• Oversee the collection of membership dues to pay for tournament fees, memberships into THSSDL and NASDA, travel fees, Forensics supplies, etc.
• Judge at Forensics tournaments
• Attend Forensics Invitational Tournaments (TBD) held by host high schools or colleges
• Attend and compete at Tennessee High School Speech and Drama District III Tournament Qualifiers in March 2022 and THSSDL State in April 2022 for team member qualifiers
• Attend and compete at National Speech and Debate Association District Tournament Qualifiers in March 2022 and Nationals in June 2022 (if there are team member qualifiers).
Note: Due to Covid last school year, all tournaments were held virtually including Nationals. The initial tournaments this year are virtual; however, a host high school or college may determine to hold their tournament in person at any time.
