Job Summary
Conduct court-ordered evaluations to give opinions concerning an individual’s competency to proceed with their legal case and mental condition at the time of the alleged offense(s) (is there support for insanity defense).
Job Responsibilities
Conduct court-ordered evaluations to give opinions concerning an individual’s competency to proceed with their legal case and mental condition at the time of the alleged offense(s) (is there support for insanity defense).
Court-ordered Juvenile forensic evaluation would require a basic psychological evaluation with diagnosis and treatment recommendations. Juvenile evaluations could also include an opinion concerning competency and mental condition. In some instances, a psychosexual could be ordered to determine the risk of future offending and the recommended level of treatment to reduce risk.
The examiner would be required to write a basic forensic report. This would include a social history, a review of available records, and information describing how they arrived at their conclusions ordered by the court.
Assistance with scheduling, billing paperwork, letters to the court and attorneys, obtaining needed records for the evaluation, and other communications with attorneys and courts would be provided by VBH staff.
Reimbursement would be provided for each completed evaluation after the system is reimbursed by the TDMHSAS. The amount of reimbursement would be dependent on what procedures were conducted for the evaluation.
Qualifications
Must have a doctorate level degree in psychology with Health Service Provider designation in the State of Tennessee as a psychologist.
