Job Summary
Forest Hills Baptist Church (Nashville / Brentwood, TN) is hiring a Director of Finance. This person will play a key role on the church staff team — through their expertise, he or she will protect the financial integrity of the church and provide strategic financial guidance as we work together to further Christ’s Kingdom and see the unique mission and goals that He has given us accomplished.
The church was founded in 1960 and is a member of the Southern Baptist Convention. Nearly 1,000 people worship with us every Sunday morning, participating in either our 8:15 am traditional service, 11:00 am modern service, or by worshipping with us online. Currently, our fiscal year runs from January through December. Our FY23 budget was $5.35M; we received $5.33M in contributions and had $5.2M in expenses. In addition to having a healthy culture of generosity, the church is currently debt-free.
Job Responsibilities
We are hiring a Director of Finance who will…
- Oversee all financial operations and activities of the organization
- Develop and implement financial policies, procedures, and controls
- Prepare and analyze financial statements, reports, and forecasts
- Monitor and manage the organization’s budget and cash flow
- Ensure compliance with financial regulations and reporting requirements
- Collaborate with other departments to support strategic planning and decision-making
- Provide financial analysis and recommendations to lead
- Manage relationships with financial institutions, auditors, and other stakeholders
- Stay updated on industry trends, best practices, and changes in financial regulations

Qualifications
This person must also…
- Be a Christian who demonstrates the Fruit of the Spirit and is growing in their faith
- Since God is calling them to serve at a church and work specifically in this particular area of ministry
- Agree with Forest Hills Baptist Church’s Statement of Faith (see fhbc.org/bylaws) and identify closely with our vision, mission, and values
- Have earned a bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or a related field
- Have a strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and practices
- Have experience with balance sheet reconciliation, fiscal management, accounts receivable, cost management, financial services, regulatory reporting, accrual accounting, treasury management, and cost accounting
- Have excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data
- Be proficient in financial software systems and MS Office Suite
- Possess strong leadership and communication skills
- Have the ability to work collaboratively and effectively with cross-functional teams
- Be detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy in work
Preferably, they would also…
- Have experience as a Director of Finance or similar role
- Have experience working in another church of like size or larger
- Display high Emotional Intelligence (EQ)
