Job Summary

Reporting to and in partnership with the Executive Director (ED) and the Board of Directors, the Director of Development (Director) will spearhead development and marketing efforts as Fannie Battle Day Home for Children looks to build on its 130+ years of providing affordable, high-quality childcare to working families. The Director will have the opportunity to expand the development function within the organization and grow the donor base throughout the greater Nashville area. 

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute Fannie Battle Day Home for Children’s annual fundraising, development, and communications plan, including personal solicitation, direct mail, special events, social media, newsletters, website, etc.
  • Secure financial support from individuals and corporations
  • Manage the implementation of Raiser’s Edge and oversee staff responsible for data entry and gift processing
  • Develop, steward, and maintain ongoing relationships with individual donors and corporate partners
  • Create and execute a strategy for a large, sustained base of annual individual donors incorporating the moves management process
  • Oversee planning and logistics of special events, including Caroling for Kids and YUM! East and successfully meet or exceed budgeted goals
  • Develop and track proposals and reports for all foundation and corporate fundraising
  • Assist Grant writer and other FBDH staff with the management of program data and grant fulfillment
  • Assist in the development of an annual development and marketing budget, aligned with organizational business development and strategic plans
  • Regular communication and coordination with Development and Special Event Committees
  • Oversee volunteer recruitment and scheduling of volunteer opportunities
  • Participate in day-to-day center operations as a member of the leadership team

Qualifications

  • BA/BS required in a relevant field of study (public relations, marketing, organizational development, etc.), plus 3-5 years of experience in non-profit development preferred
  • Demonstrated excellence in organizational, managerial, project management, interpersonal relationship building, and written and oral communication skills**
  • Must be skilled and comfortable conducting all fundraising activities, including donor asks in-person and via phone
  • Experience with donor management software is required; knowledge of Raiser’s Edge preferred
  • Must pass a mandatory background check
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Proficient in social media marketing and familiarity with Facebook, Instagram, and other social media platforms – Experience with design applications such as Canva is a plus
  • Must be able to work evenings and weekends, on limited occasion
  • Local travel and reliable access to transportation for appointments required
