Job Summary

The new Director of Development will oversee the expanding and relational Development Program of NAHT. This will include, but not be limited to, the co-creation of a strategic development plan (with the Executive Director), the organizational support to execute the plan, and the communication, drive and creativity for all Development program functions – from fundraising events to donor communications and grants. The DoD supports the crucial outreach of NAHT by leading an excellent and engaged development department.

Job Responsibilities

Strategize

  • With the Executive Director, create a 5-year strategic plan to guide development
  • Create the necessary timeline and structure for the execution of that plan
  • Create, track, and manage calendar and activities for monthly, quarterly, and annual fundraising goals and objectives
  • With Executive Director, cultivate and nurture long-term relationships with individuals, community and corporate partners, churches, and government agencies for optimal partnerships
  • Research potential funding sources, and with Executive Director, plan who and how contact is initiated
  • With Grant Manager, research potential grant opportunities, and create goals and plans grants
  • Plan for all methods of recording and reporting development data for a data-driven program

Execute

  • Meet weekly/bi-weekly with Executive Director and regularly communicate clearly regarding schedules, progress, and challenges in Development
  • Spearhead the creation and production of fundraising literature for donor communication, emails, website, targeted mail campaigns, and event invitations
  • Plan monthly, quarterly, and annual development and fundraising events
  • Communicate clearly and consistently with the Development team and appropriate NAHT staff about calendar, updates, and staff expectations for participation
  • Communicate clearly, warmly, and professionally with all potential and present donors
  • Prepare monthly reports for Executive Director and Board
  • Monitor and review all grant applications
  • Ensure the recording and follow-up for all gifts

Oversee

  • Lead and oversee all Development responsibilities, schedules, activities, and team members
  • Plan and supervise the work of Development Assistant
  • Monitor the maintenance and update of the donor database with present and potential donors and partners
  • Coordinate with Grant Manager on timeline and progress of grant prospects and applications
  • Coordinate with Community Relations Manager for weekly development tours of NAHT and follow-up
  • Review quarterly the performance and support needs of each member of the development team

Qualifications

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • 4-year Bachelor’s degree
  • 3 years’ experience in Development or Marketing
  • 1-2 years’ experience in event planning, preferred
  • 3 years’ experience in non-profit organization
  • Comfortable and confident speaking in groups
  • A trusting relationship with Jesus Christ
  • Proven ability to communicate clearly and professionally both verbally and written
  • Determination to meet goals
  • Commitment to excellence in planning, communication, and execution
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively and respectfully on a team
  • Ability to work productively in a high-energy, dynamic environment
  • Management experience, preferred
  • Organizational experience with complex calendars, schedules, and events
  • Enjoyment in meeting and connecting with people around a common mission
  • Willing to work after normal business hours when required
  • Willing to work onsite in NAHT office 2-3 full days per week
  • Commitment to confidentiality
