Job Summary

The Arc is a nonprofit, national federation that includes The Arc of the United States, state chapters, and local chapters. The Arc Tennessee exists to positively impact the system of services that support the disability community and to empower people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families to actively participate in the community throughout their lifetime. To help us fulfill our mission, we are seeking a Director of Communication and Public Awareness who will be responsible for all aspects of external communication with members, local chapters, and the general community and increasing awareness of The Arc Tennessee and its mission within the general public.

Job Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

GENERAL

  • Uphold the mission, positions, and values of The Arc Tennessee
  • Comply with fiscal, legal, and agency requirements
  • Model behaviors of trust, competence, vision, and inspiration
  • Involve others in planning and problem-solving
  • Expand knowledge and skills through on-the-job, program-sponsored, and external educational opportunities
  • Possess a general knowledge of The Arc as a national, state, and local organization 

DUTIES OF JOB

  • Update and maintain various websites for The Arc Tennessee to ensure content is current and relevant
  • Develop and maintain a supply of brochures, information sheets, flyers, directories, program handbooks, and other publications as requested for various programs, projects, and fundraising events
  • Coordinate publication of the Connection quarterly newsletter including but not limited to writing articles, soliciting articles from others, layout of newsletter, and communicating with the printing agency
  • Manage and design social media content across all media platforms
  • Track and report social media engagement to leadership and the Public Awareness Committee
  • Design graphics for banners, billboards, t-shirts, etc.
  • Serve as a photographer or coordinate photography at events of The Arc Tennessee
  • Direct production of promotional videos
  • Cultivate relationships with local media including newspaper, television, and radio
  • Collaborate on the expansion of Center for Decision-making Supports (CDMS) online resources, including but not limited to webinars, virtual training, and digital content
  • Build community relationships and partnerships with local media, including like-minded organizations, non-profits, and for-profits
  • Promote the activities of The Arc Tennessee through exhibiting and presenting at various events
  • Lead in the local arrangements, contracts, and communications aspects of the TN Disability MegaConference and provide support to other MegaConference committees as needed
  • Oversee annual awards events including but not limited to the nomination and scoring process, dinner arrangements, awards presentation, and speakers
  • Participate on various task forces, advisory councils, and other community committees as appropriate
  • Provide information, referral, and technical assistance to people calling or emailing The Arc Tennessee for assistance

Management/Administrative

  • Serve as staff liaison to the Public Awareness/Awards Committee and other board committees as assigned
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Master’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred; high school diploma with at least five years of experience in a non-profit or human services field may substitute for a college degree
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, written and verbal communication skills, and presentation skills
  • Exceptional organizational skills
  • Experience in the IDD field preferred
  • Expertise in Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher
  • Experience with Canva website software and WordPress
  • Experience with CRM such as Little Green Light and EveryAction preferred
  • Experience with Zoom, WebEx, and Teams
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Reliable transportation
