Job Summary

The Development Manager is a key member of Hands On Nashville’s Development Team. The manager will work closely with the Director of Development to support the organization’s fundraising efforts, with a concentration on donor prospecting, special events and donor relationships. This position will also be responsible for maintaining the donor management system to measure and achieve development goals.

To be successful, the manager must be able to take initiative, think strategically about the larger efforts of the department, and have experience with event management. The Development Manager should be proactive, able to manage multiple tasks at once, and believe in Hands On Nashville’s mission to meet community needs through volunteerism.

Job Responsibilities

Responsibilities (Essential Functions)

  • Build and manage donor lead lists for outreach that include businesses, foundations, individuals, and more.
  • Develop relationships with new corporate and foundation funders to understand potential grant opportunities
  • Take the lead on drafting initial communications to donors
  • Conduct proactive outreach to cause marketing prospects including retailers and restaurants
  • Conduct donor research and prepare development team for successful partner meetings
  • Provide support for grant preparation and review
  • Coordinate pre-event, event-day, and follow-up logistics for Hands On Nashville’s Mary Catherine Strobel Volunteer Awards and other fundraising events, including vendor management, sponsor fulfillment, and event programming
  • Collaborate with the Communications Team to optimize social media, website, printed materials, and technology that can be used to amplify HON’s messaging with prospective donors
  • Ensure donors are appropriately thanked
  • Ensure accurate donation processing, including mail processing, gift entry, timely reporting and acknowledgement of gifts
  • Maintain excellent records, including proper tracking of donations and communications in Salesforce
  • Stay up-to-date on Click & Pledge transaction technologies and support implementation
  • Provide stellar customer service to donors
  • Support the team’s efforts to achieve revenue goals

Universal HON Team Functions (Nonessential)

  • Represent HON in the community and provide the highest level of customer service to volunteers, community partners, corporate partners and all persons encountered during other duties
  • Support Hands On Nashville fundraising and volunteer events
  • Provide volunteer leadership for disaster response activities, corporate projects and special events, as needed
  • Collaborate on the creation of promotional, social media content and other story-telling needs
  • Participate in community volunteer efforts to improve understanding of the volunteer experience and community needs
  • Participate in staff team-building and professional development activities

Qualifications

About You

  • Experienced in event management and/or relationship-driven fundraising or sales
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with exceptional customer service sense
  • Self-motivated and goal oriented
  • Highly organized and able to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and able to learn new software quickly
  • Knowledge of Salesforce (or other donor-management software) is a plus

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience in community engagement, nonprofit management, event management or related field
  • Ability to pass National Service Criminal History Check, including state, federal, and sex offender databases
  • Reliable transportation for both regular work hours and special events. Staff members are reimbursed for work-related mileage.
  • Ability to work some evenings/weekends and to increase work hours in times of disaster. Some overnight travel may be required.
