Tennessee Respite Coalition provides relief to families and caregivers from the extraordinary and intensive demands of providing ongoing care.  The Tennessee Respite Coalition primarily serves caregivers of children and adults with disabilities and the elderly, including people/families with low income, refugees and/or immigrants, people who identify as a racial or ethnic minority, and people with behavioral health conditions. The Tennessee Respite Coalition provides resources that empower family caregivers to reclaim a piece of themselves and restore balance to their lives and relationships through respite and other support services. POSITION OVERVIEW

The Development Director will lead fundraising efforts including capital initiatives, support from within the private and government sectors, and individual giving.

The Development Director fosters a culture of philanthropy within the organization and ensures that the organization’s culture, systems, and procedures support fund development and vice versa.  The Director leads the Board of Directors, staff, and other volunteers to institutionalize philanthropy and fund development within the organization.

Job Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Work with the Executive Director and Board to establish and measure annual and long-range fund development goals and implement the necessary tactics that reach or exceed those targets.

    • Grow TRC’s operating revenue, reserves, and financial assistance funds.
    • Maintain an active list of funding priorities that can be easily communicated to prospects.
    • Work closely with the Executive Director and the Board on strategic decision-making and execution of fundraising strategy.
    • Oversee and cultivate a balanced funding mix of donor sources and solicitation programs tailored to the needs of the organization that will enable it to attract, retain and motivate donors, members, and fundraising volunteers.
  • Serve as a key representative and important face of TRC in the community.
  • Along with the Executive Director, create and steward a robust list of donors and prospects, seeking every opportunity to foster key relationships that have immediate or future strategic value. Network extensively within the Nashville community, while also seeking state- or national-focused opportunities for support of TRC’s mission.
  • Design and ensure implementation of cost-effective fund development programs, employing efficiency while maintaining a high level of quality and solid return on investment.
  • Secure gifts in the $1,000 to $50,000 range with the goal of raising $250,000+ annually, with $90k+ being secured within the first 6 months.

SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND TRAITS

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to effectively and professionally present Tennessee Respite Coalition to current and potential donors
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to succeed in a fast-paced, high-volume work environment
  • Excellent administrative, organizational, project planning, and management skills
  • Knowledge of IRS rules regarding charitable contributions and financial reporting
  • Attention to detail, sound judgment, and sensitivity to cultural diversity
  • Ability to meet stringent and multiple deadlines
  • Enthusiasm and appreciation for the value of respite care and its impact on the caregiving community. 

Qualifications

  • Education:  Bachelor’s degree or  6-8 years with a proven track record in fundraising or sales experience will be considered.
  • Experience:  Minimum of 5-7 years of successful fundraising experience, preferably in a non-profit setting.
  • Broad knowledge of the principles of fundraising and ability to participate in all aspects of the gift cycle (identification, research, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of prospects and donors).
  • Demonstrated success in securing individual, corporate, and foundation gifts.  Significant experience in annual giving or fundraising events with a demonstrated track record of setting and achieving goals may be substituted.
  • Expert user of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Knowledge of Donor Perfect donor software preferred.
  • Ability to safeguard confidential information and commitment to the Association of Fundraising Professionals Code of Ethics.
  • Professional appearance and demeanor.
  • The ability to work development events at various hours, including weekends and evenings is required.
  • The successful candidate is subject to an extensive background check prior to hiring.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

  • There is manual labor during the set-up and breakdown of fundraising events.
  • The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts requiring normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meetings, and training rooms; use of safe work practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls and observance of fire regulations.
