Job Summary

The construction Staff & Volunteer Senior Manager is a field-based, hands-on role that plays an integral part in building and leading Habitat for Humanity of Greater Nashville (HFHGN) construction staff, groups of skilled/unskilled volunteers, and homeowner families in construction activities while maintaining a safe and efficient work environment; thus, developing and enhancing our volunteer and construction experience.

The Construction Staff & Volunteer Engagement Senior Manager (CSVSM) is the most visible and consistent point of contact for sponsors, volunteers, and community members. As such, they should understand and embrace HFHGN programs and principles. This position should be a passionate advocate for Habitat and enjoy sharing their knowledge, while on the job site and when in contact with people outside the organization. This position will report to the SVP of Construction.

Job Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintaining a professional and enthusiastic attitude on the job site and ensuring all HFHGN’s construction staff are providing a positive experience for volunteers and external stakeholders (future homeowners, homeowners, vendors, sub-contractors…etc)., during construction of all activities
  • Holds a fiduciary duty towards Cost, Time, Quality, Engagement, and Experience for stakeholders
  • Leads and coordinates residential builds and completes agency construction activities, across counties
  • Supervises and instructs on-site volunteers to accomplish goals and deliverables
  • Oversees the construction process and agency schedules across volunteer/non-volunteer projects
  • Creates a respectful, positive, encouraging, and safe work atmosphere
  • Ensures safety guidelines are followed, and adequate training is provided to the construction team and daily volunteers
  • Holds main responsibility for the delivery of homes/construction projects on time and within budget
  • Responsible for ensuring homes are built in accordance with applicable building codes
  • Proficiency and skill in detailed techniques and principles of construction, construction scheduling, procurement, budgeting, warranty program, and continuous improvement

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and provide direction for HFHGN’s Construction staff working towards a comprehensive construction team and outcomes

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB

  • Leads a team of HFHGN’s construction employees and groups of volunteers on volunteer build days and on non-volunteer build days, with hands-on technical assistance, coaching, quality control, and interaction with HFHGN’s construction team and groups of volunteers
  • Must be able to perform all hands-on construction responsibilities and tasks, including but not limited to using power, hand, and carpentry tools
  • Delivers quality in all completed construction projects on time and within budget

Time requirements:

  • 40+ hours per week (exempt), During build season this role reports Wednesday through Sunday; Non Build Season reports Monday through Friday.

Qualifications

  • Must have 8+yrs hands-on residential construction experience & technical knowledge
  • Must have excellent working knowledge of residential construction trades, tools, and methods including but not limited to carpentry, concrete, drywall, masonry, siding, roofing, flooring, trim, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and appropriate energy-efficient trade practices
  • This position requires a good understanding of building codes and practices and requisite agency compliance with the same
  • Must have knowledge and maintain current working knowledge of building materials and techniques of construction
  • Must have at least 5 years of employee management skills (participated in recruiting, training, time management & performance management. etc)
