AGENCY DESCRIPTION:

AncoraTN (ATN), formerly End Slavery Tennessee, works tirelessly to nurture survivor healing and strategically combat human trafficking in Middle Tennessee. We seek to break cycles of exploitation and support survivors of human trafficking as they heal from their traumas—offering long-term, comprehensive aftercare services. Through educating communities and professionals, advocating for legal changes, and implementing prevention programming, AncoraTN works to stop human trafficking before it ever begins.

AncoraTN was founded in 2012 as a faith-based, not-for-profit organization for the purpose of community awareness and education. We strive to create an environment of faith and spirituality to restore hope and a lifetime of community. REPORTS TO: Director of Development & External Relations

POSITION SUMMARY: Are you relationship driven with a passion for engaging individuals and groups in volunteer service? Do you enjoy educating others through trainings?  The Community Engagement Specialist is a vital part of the ATN team, inviting the community into our mission through building a robust and trauma-informed volunteer program and raising awareness through community and front-line professional trainings.

Job Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Volunteer Program (45%):

  • Build strong relationships with agency volunteers and cultivate a positive volunteer experience.
  • Coordinate with direct service, external relations, and administrative staff to continuously evaluate agency needs to determine appropriate volunteer engagement opportunities.
  • Plan and implement one-time group volunteer opportunities to engage corporate, faith-based, and civic partners.
  • Recruit, interview, and train agency volunteers to best work in a trauma-informed environment.
  • Manage and maintain all volunteer paperwork.
  • Coordinate with staff on other community engagement opportunities including ATN meal train, agency needs list, etc.

Awareness and Training (45%):

  • Oversee agency training requests including with front-line professionals, community partners, and the general public.
  • Conduct 2-4 trainings monthly.
  • Continuously evaluate and update training content to stay up-to-date with best practices in the field.
  • Implement training evaluations to ensure education goals are being met.
  • Coordinate awareness events such setting up information tables at fairs, mission moments, and other events.

Donation Management (10%):

  • Manages organization in-kind donation process of physical goods and services.
  • Collaborates with the direct service team to identify current survivor needs such as toiletries, food, and household supplies.
  • In partnership with the Development and Communications Associate, ensures that donors are appropriately thanked and appreciated.
  • Manage holiday and celebration giving program.

All positions at AncoraTN interact with survivors of human trafficking from day to day. The issue is sensitive and complex. Every employee is trained in trauma-informed and strength-based approach in order to connect with and build appropriate and encouraging relationships with survivors. We strive to create a completely judgement free work environment. Empathy, compassion, and the ability to deal with difficult situations is a must for anyone who works at AncoraTN.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is carried out primarily in an office setting with intermittent sitting, standing, walking and some light physical activity. Most work is performed while sitting and using the computer, phone and engaged in face-to-face conversation with staff and/or clients. Some car travel and use of personal vehicle is required. The work expectations will include some work at the AncoraTN offices along with some work from home opportunities.

Work hours are primarily daytime but does require some night or weekend work for meetings and events.

Qualifications

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field or equivalent experience required
  • 2-4 years’ experience working with volunteers
  • Experience and comfort training on human trafficking or other related topics (domestic violence, sexual assault, etc.)
  • Strong public speaking skills
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills
  • Exceptional organizational and project management skills
  • Proficient computer skills required, including: Excel, Outlook, Windows
  • People-oriented with demonstrated ability to build rapport and gain trust with diverse populations
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Able to maintain confidentiality, as required by law and in the best interest of survivors, donors and the organization as a whole
  • Fast learner, ability to problem solve, and capacity for hard work
  • Valid Tennessee driver’s license, state-required driver’s insurance and access to reliable personal transportation
  • Able to excel in a team atmosphere
  • General knowledge about the issue of human trafficking or intersecting exploitations, trauma, or

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Initial and subsequent random drug screening is required as per agency policy.
  • A background check is required.
  • Must be willing and able to embrace and exemplify our core values.

JOB TYPE:

Full-time, 8am-4pm (willing to work some evening and weekend hours, as needed). Some travel may be required. This is a hybrid position, currently requiring two days a week in the office or as needed to fulfill job responsibilities.

SALARY AND BENEFITS:

Base Salary:

  • $42,000-$50,000 Based on a combination of education and experience.

Benefits:

  • Healthcare stipend – $500.00/ month. Eligible after 30 days of employment.
  • Cellular telephone provided
  • $150.00/ month for therapy
  • 120 hours PTO accrued 10 hours/ month. Eligible after 30 days of employment.
  • 96 hours sick leave accrued 4 hours/ pay period. Eligible after 30 days of employment.
  • 13 paid holidays
  • 3 floating holidays
  • Short term disability, Long term disability, AD&D and Life insurance
  • Employer 403b match up to 1% of salary based on employee contributions. Eligible for match after 6 months of employment
