Job Summary

Are you an artistic, energetic team player? Are you looking for a creative role that helps Tennessee’s children become lifelong learners? Do you want to join a collaborative team of fun, driven individuals?

Governor’s Early Literacy Foundation (GELF) equips Tennessee’s children with books and innovative literacy tools that encourage lifelong learning for a brighter future. GELF is a non-partisan 501c3 driven by a mission to strengthen early literacy in Tennessee by acting as a thought leader, advisor, and catalyst for programs across the state. These programs include Birth-5 Book Delivery through Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, K-3 Home Library, Caregiver Engagement, Book Buses, and Storybook Trails. GELF was founded in 2004 by former Gov. Phil Bredesen as a public-private partnership to sustain Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library in Tennessee, giving all birth to age five children the opportunity to receive books in the mail at no cost to families. GELF has grown from solely a book-gifting program partner to an early literacy organization driven by a vision where all Tennessee children have access to the resources, guidance, and support they need to become lifelong learners.

We are seeking a collaborative, creative individual to be the Communications Coordinator. This role will work with the Foundation’s Communications Director to coordinate the marketing and communications activities of the Governor’s Early Literacy Foundation (GELF), including the production of marketing materials, outreach with media in alignment with public relations strategy, digital marketing through social media and website, and maintaining brand messaging for the Foundation and its key programs and initiatives. This is a role that will assist and implement the marketing and communications efforts of the Foundation, which is fun, exciting, and creative work. Our desire is to find a person that is passionate about our mission and enjoys brainstorming new creative ideas and producing high-quality messaging and content.

Reporting directly to the Communications Director, the Communications Coordinator works collaboratively with the GELF team, outside partners, and vendors to actively manage, enhance, and grow the Foundation’s awareness.

The Communications Coordinator is a collaborative, sociable professional capable of thinking creatively and creating content with a strong desire to learn. This driven individual thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment and has strong written and verbal communication skills. A collaborative team player, the ideal candidate has strong attention to detail and appreciates the urgency to strengthen early literacy in Tennessee.
