Job Summary

The Tennessee Innocence Project (“TIP”) investigates and litigates claims of actual innocence on behalf of the incarcerated in Tennessee. 

The Tennessee Innocence Project seeks an experienced Chief Operating Officer (COO) with a background in management, operations, and personnel to oversee the daily operations. This professional will report directly to the Executive Director and work with the Deputy Director.  All non-legal staff will report directly to the Director of Operations. The ideal candidate is an excellent leader capable of managing the staff and business operations of TIP.  

Job Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily operations at TIP.
  • Supervise non-legal staff from different departments, coordinating development, communications, community education, facilities, and administration and assist where needed.
  • Evaluate the efficiency of TIP procedures according to organizational goals and apply improvements.
  • Revise and formulate TIP policies and promote their implementation.
  • Manage relationships/agreements with external vendors.
  • Regularly interface with the Board of Directors/ Advisory Board and Board Committees.
  • Oversee and support the Board’s multiple committees and meetings.
  • Coordinate with the Executive Director and Deputy Director to execute strategic goals for TIP.
  • Providing daily support to all staff.
  • Bring together Memphis and Nashville locations to make connectivity.
  • Oversee the accuracy of TIP financials.

Qualifications

  • Deep commitment to TIP’s vision and mission, embracing the focus on rights and social justice.
  • Proven experience in business or nonprofit operations.
  • Outstanding people skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of nonprofit or business operations (e.g., development, accounting, human resources, budgeting, etc.)
  • Multi-tasker; efficient and organized with time.
  • Proven ability to manage a team of employees.
  • Success in achieving measured goals.
  • Familiarity with various office software and social media platforms.
  • Creative thinker who can help implement organizational sustainability and growth. 

Additional Information

Benefits

This position offers a salary range between $76,000 and $87,000 depending on experience. Includes paid time off, health care, professional development as required, and a flexible work environment.
