Welcome potential candidates to serve on the Nia Association Board of Directors! Nia Association’s mission is to Provide top-quality Disability Support Services, Affordable Housing, and Employment for civilians and veterans. Nia Association continues to fulfill the mission of providing exceptional person-centered support and services for individuals with intellectual and developmental barriers.  We are increasing services throughout Middle Tennessee. We believe everyone should have a “purpose for living”. Our intention is to ensure the individuals we support receive the quality-of-life opportunities designed by themselves and their families. As stewards of our organization’s mission and vision, board members play a crucial role in guiding our efforts to empower and support communities across Tennessee. Here’s an overview of the duties and obligations you can expect as a member of our esteemed board:

Job Responsibilities

  • Governance: Uphold the highest standards of governance, ensuring compliance with legal requirements and adherence to our bylaws and policies.
  • Strategic Planning: Contribute to the development and implementation of strategic plans that align with our mission and drive impactful outcomes for our constituents.
  • Financial Stewardship: Provide oversight of financial matters, including budget approval, financial performance monitoring, and ensuring responsible use of resources.
  • Fundraising and Resource Development: Engage in fundraising activities to secure resources necessary to sustain and expand our programs and initiatives.
  • Community Engagement: Serve as ambassadors for the Nia Association, fostering relationships with stakeholders, advocating for our mission, and raising awareness of our impact within the community.
  • Advocacy and Representation: Advocate for the interests of our organization and the communities we serve at local, state, and national levels, promoting policies and initiatives that advance our mission.
  • Collaboration and Partnership: Collaborate with fellow board members, staff, volunteers, and external partners to leverage collective expertise and resources for maximum impact.
  • Evaluation and Continuous Improvement: Participate in board evaluations and contribute to ongoing efforts to assess and enhance the effectiveness of our programs and operations.
  • Ethical Leadership: Demonstrate integrity, transparency, and ethical leadership in all board activities, ensuring decisions are made in the best interests of the organization and its stakeholders.
  • Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: Champion diversity, equity, and inclusion within the board and throughout our organization’s work, striving to create an inclusive environment where all voices are valued and heard.

Essential Criteria for NIA Board Service:

  • Commitment: Attend at least 75% of all board meetings annually for decision-making and planning, either virtually or at a designated location.  
  • Time Dedication: Allocate a minimum of 30 hours per year to Nia Association activities, excluding travel time.
