Job Summary

The Bilingual Family Services Coordinator coordinates services to Hispanic and Latino child abuse and child sexual abuse victims, and their non-offending parents, grandparents, and family members.  The Coordinator is responsible for providing client services, tracking client cases, and community education designed to identify crime victims, assist in reporting child abuse, and refer to needed services.  The Coordinator works as a team with Department of Children’s Services, law enforcement, mental health counselors, Our Kids, and the District Attorney’s Office to assist child abuse and child sexual abuse victims and their non offending parents, grandparents, and family members.  The Coordinator works with the Family Services Coordinator and the Executive Director to fulfill the goals and objectives of the Child Advocacy Center.

Job Responsibilities

Child Abuse and Child Sexual Abuse Client Services

  • Develop and provide client services to Rutherford County Hispanic and Latino child abuse victims, child sexual abuse victims, and their non-offending family members
  • Provide services to Hispanic and Latino children and families at forensic interviews
  • Provide crisis intervention counseling, case management and referral services, safety planning, crisis telephone line, follow up services, court advocacy, personal advocacy, emergency financial assistance, and coordination of services to victims.
  • Establish a trusting relationship with at-risk families by initiating and maintaining regular client contact

Systems Advocacy

  • Work as a team with Department of Children’s Services, law enforcement, Our Kids, Guidance Center, mental health counselors, and the District Attorney’s Office to assist child abuse and child sexual abuse victims, and their non-offending family members
  • Advocate on behalf of individual clients
  • Advocate for change that improves the systemic response to Hispanic and Latino victims of child abuse, child sexual abuse, and drug endangered children
  • Act as a liaison between Hispanic and Latino families and other community agencies
  • Attend the following community meetings:  CPIT Team, Encuentro Latino (Nashville), Prevention Coalition for Success, Rutherford County Coalition Against Child Abuse, and other community meetings

Case Tracking

  • Track child abuse, child sexual abuse, and drug endangered children cases from the point of referral through prosecution of the case
  • Enters all client case data into the NCA Trak computerized case tracking system
  • Maintain client records in a complete and concise manner

Volunteer Coordination

  • Interview, screen, train, supervise, and evaluate student interns and client services volunteers

Community Education

  • Provide community education and outreach to the Hispanic and Latino community on child abuse, child sexual abuse, drug endangered children, and Child Advocacy Center program services to identify crime victims, encourage child abuse reporting, and refer crime victims to needed services
  • Provide Darkness to Light Stewards of Children Training to identify crime victims, encourage child abuse reporting within the Hispanic and Latino community, and refer crime victims to needed services

Evaluation

  • Survey clients regularly throughout the year to assess the effectiveness of the program
  • Survey multi-disciplinary team members quarterly on the effectiveness of the program

Reporting

  • Compile client services, statistical, and survey data for Office of Criminal Justice Programs, State of Tennessee, Board of Directors, Children’s Advocacy Centers of Tennessee, National Children’s Alliance, and other funding sources

Supervision

  • Report to the Family Services Coordinator (Direct Supervisor)
  • Attend regular supervision meetings and staff meetings,
  • Attend conferences, training, and meetings for professional development
  • Follow Child Advocacy Center policies and procedures
  • Other duties as assigned in a timely manner

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to read, write, and fluently speak Spanish and English
  • Working knowledge of the dynamics of child abuse, child sexual abuse, drug endangered children,  neglect, domestic violence, parent-child interaction, child development, substance abuse and methamphetamine, and the ability to apply this information
  • Working knowledge of Rutherford County community resources and the ability to use appropriately to meet families’ needs
  • Ability to effectively monitor client interaction
  • Communication and problem solving skills to effectively work with families
  • Organizational skills to independently manage workload and related responsibilities
  • Ability to function under pressure in crisis situations
  • Ability to work with diverse populations
  • Ability to work effectively with employees from other agencies and members of community groups
  • Ability to work in a team environment where multiple players contribute to problem solving
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate in oral and written form in Spanish and English
  • Ability to operate a computer
  • Must be able to provide transportation for families with licensed, insured driver with current Tennessee driver’s license and safe driving record

Education and Experience

  • B.A. or B.S. in Social Work or related field required, Master’s degree preferred
  • Alcohol and drug counseling experience preferred
  • Crisis intervention counseling, case management, court advocacy, volunteer supervision, community education, home visits, and support group experience preferred
  • Demonstrated maturity and experience in successfully working with families

Special Requirements

  • Must pass a thorough TBI background investigation and TBI finger print background check, including providing the names of four employment references.
  • Must have reliable transportation and be able to travel in Rutherford and Cannon Counties to work cases
  • Available on 24-hour call with a cellular telephone to respond to a crisis and be on-site within 30 minutes
