Job Summary

Catholic Charities has two open positions for Bilingual Case Managers in its New Americans Department. These positions are full-time (37.5 hours per week) and located at the Catholic Pastoral Center at 2806 McGavock Pike, Nashville, TN 37214. Hours are generally 8:00 am-4:30 pm though flexibility may be required outside of these hours.

Job Responsibilities

  • Meets clients at the airport upon arrival and provides orientation to housing and community.
  • Provides case management services according to program guidelines and mandates.
  • Assists clients in applying for services and benefits for which they are eligible within the timeframe requirements of funders.
  • Conducts individual and family needs assessments, creates service plans for each client, and updates plans as needed.
  • Familiarizes clients with American culture including such activities as shopping, use of public transportation, establishing banking services, identifying medical providers, and the basics of hygiene and household cleaning expectations.
  • Provides interpretation services for clients as needed.
  • Completes any required reports or data collection activities as prescribed by funders, partners, or agency leadership in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Reviews program guidelines and updates and participates in training to ensure that services meet the expectations and requirements set forth by funders.
  • Maintains confidentiality and appropriately handles sensitive information in compliance with privacy laws and regulations.
  • Maintains accurate client and program records regarding services provided according to Agency guidelines, using the database(s) provided by the agency and within Agency timeframe.
  • Actively participates in supervision sessions, periodic team meetings, and training.
  • Provides transportation for clients to appointments and meetings as needed, ensuring that proper safety equipment is utilized for all children while using an Agency vehicle.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE  

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field preferred OR
  • High School diploma with four years of relevant experience.
  • Prior experience working with refugees is preferred.

OTHER SKILLS OR REQUIREMENTS

  • Bilingual in Spanish, Creole, and Swahili. Kirundi, French, or Kinyarwanda required.
  • Knowledge/experience with benefit programs/social service programs for residents of Nashville.
  • A valid driver’s license and clean driving record are required.
  • Knowledge of human behavior and an ability to adapt and use various methods while meeting the needs of newcomers.
  • Ability to facilitate intercultural communication and to create an environment where differences are respected.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment, courtesy, and tact in dealing with the public and staff.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with extreme professionalism.
  • Attention to detail and adherence to deadlines.
  • Ability to plan and organize work.
  • Ability to follow tasks through to completion.
  • Effective interpersonal skills including emotional intelligence, reliability, positivity, negotiation, empathy, and openness to feedback.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work well in a team and independently with minimal direction.
  • Ability to go up and down steps, load and unload car seats, and lift to 20 lbs.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
  • Ability to learn databases.
