Job Summary

Consistent with the Christian mission and vision of the YMCA of Middle TN, and in cooperation with other YMCA staff, under the direction of District Executive Director, the Associate Executive is responsible for day-to-day operations of the YMCA and must balance fiscal responsibility, staff development/motivation, quality program delivery and facility upkeep, cleanliness, and safety to experience success.

Job Responsibilities

  • Model the YMCA core values: Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility; implement character development and the YMCA core values in all programs and all aspects of Center operations
  • Model and put into practice behavior that supports inclusion, diversity and equity
  • Develop, manage, and monitor the Center operating budget and meet or exceed budget targets
  • Represent the YMCA and maintain appropriate relationships with area organizations, community leaders and businesses
  • Assist with the development and management of Center programs to meet the needs of the community and achieve Association operating objectives; direct staff and volunteers in the development of program and membership enrollment strategies
  • Ensure outstanding customer/member service
  • Ensure all safety procedures are followed in accordance with YMCA of Middle TN policy and all local, state & federal laws; ensure compliance with Association policies and procedures
  • Assist with staff and volunteer development and motivation; create a caring, friendly, fun, safe environment that provides opportunities for staff to connect, develop relationships, and achieve their goals through the YMCA of Middle TN
  • Assist with developing, managing, and monitoring the Center operating budget and meet or exceed budget targets
  • Serve as a leader in the annual giving campaign and other fundraising initiatives; direct staff and volunteers on implementation of membership campaigns
  • Participate in special events, activities and meetings, including staff meetings, trainings, and assigned committees as requested
  • Coordinate management and maintenance of the facility and equipment

Superior supervisory skills and an enthusiastic personality with the ability to inspire and motivate staff, volunteers and members to create a culture of service within our Centers

Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community

  • Must present a professional image and possess conflict resolution skills, and demonstrate sound judgment and initiative
  • Must be highly organized with the ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality of information
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other software programs; ability to use most office equipment is required
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends
  • Minimum 21 years of age
  • Four-year degree in a related field or equivalent experience; minimum three years’ experience in a director-level YMCA position
  • Ability to analyze complex information, and to define and solve problems
  • Strong ability to manage and develop an operating budget
  • Knowledge of compensation administration principles and procedures; mathematical skills
  • Excellent written, oral and presentation skills
  • Ability to make administrative and procedural decisions and judgments on sensitive, confidential issues
  • Knowledge of federal and state employment laws and regulations, and not for profit sector employment policies and procedures
