Summary:

The Associate Director of Refugee Services will oversee the provision of services to refugees, asylees, Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) holders, and certain Humanitarian Parolees to help them move from surviving to thriving in Alabama and Tennessee. Under the supervision of the Executive Director of Refugee and Immigrant Services, the Associate Director will be responsible for the oversight and leadership of all refugee services programs to ensure that the goals and objectives of the refugee services department are accomplished within the prescribed time frame and within budget. She/he will work closely with the team of managers and coordinators to facilitate collaboration and teamwork between refugee services programs. The Associate Director will provide strategic management for the health and growth of the department with strict financial oversight, including maintaining current funding partners and securing new and sustainable program funding.

  • This is a hybrid full-time position. Some duties can be done remotely while some others require operating in a professional office environment
  • Reports to: Executive Director of Refugee and Immigrant Services
  • Located in: Nashville or Birmingham
  • Supervises a team of 4-6 staff
  • Salary range: $75,000 – $85,000/year

Job Responsibilities

Responsibilities

  • Consistently stays abreast of all aspects and any changes in the program’s contractual requirements.
  • Organizes and coordinates the programs’ activities in compliance with all contract and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensures that all services provided by the department meet or exceed contract standards and guidelines.
  • Oversees all relevant database documentation and tracking about each program and any other data to ensure they are complete, accurate, and up to date.
  • Plans strategically for the creation of new services and identifies possible programs and funding sources.
  • Identifies, defines, and assesses client needs that are not being met by current programs and designs program components for new proposals.
  • Works with the Inspiritus Development team to provide information and assistance for grant applications and contract proposals. Prepares grant applications and funding requests independently when appropriate.
  • Assists staff with issues or grievances that may arise with clients, the community, etc.
  • Oversees the administration of client and partner feedback surveys to assess refugee and stakeholder program satisfaction. Develop and implement quality improvement plans based on the assessment in partnership with managers and coordinators.
  • Helps ensure the coordination and integration of services. Coordinates program activities with related activities within the department and in other departments to ensure efficiency and economy.
  • Ensures department compliance with state and federal contracts, including coordinating quarterly community consultations for Reception & Placement, Matching Grants, and Intensive Case Management programs.
  • Promotes Inspiritus’ Refugee Services department by providing community education opportunities; organizes and generates support for the department’s services among congregations, businesses, and community groups.
  • Keeps abreast of national, state, and local policies and practices that impact the department and client base and keeps abreast of current events and trends influencing the delivery of service programs.
  • Maintains personal and professional boundaries in the performance of the job.
  • Forges mutually respectful partnerships with clients, co-workers, and volunteers.
  • Participates in Inspiritus functions and public relations activities.
  • Participates in training and professional conferences to keep abreast of current trends.
  • Conforms with and abides by all regulations, policies, work procedures, and instructions.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or international equivalent in human services, social work, or other applicable field and a minimum of three years of experience managing and leading refugee-serving programs in the United States, including Reception & Placement, Matching Grant, Refugee Social Services, Intensive Case Management, etc.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience that enables performance in all aspects of the position.
  • Experience designing, implementing, and managing relevant projects with federal government cooperative agreements and/or contracts.
  • Ability to make complex decisions after reviewing available information
  • Capacity to coach and empower staff and advocate on their behalf.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Excellent computer skills, accurate typing, and knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Must be sensitive to the service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics and be able to communicate in a culturally competent manner.
  • Must hold a valid Driver’s license and a good driving record.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Master’s degree in social science or social work field
  • Ability to speak a second language.
