With longstanding history and deep community roots, Martha O’Bryan Center (MOBC) operates programs supporting education goals for learners of all ages, empowers youth and adults in their careers, and provides stability and support services for individual families. AmeriCorps 

AmeriCorps is a federal year-of-service program. AmeriCorps VISTA builds capacity in the organizations they serve by researching, implementing, and overseeing sustainable projects. Members will serve at MOBC’s main site. Members receive a living allowance and, upon successful completion of hours, an education award of $7,395. Job Description 

The AmeriCorps VISTA Development Specialist will support the community and organizational capacity of the Martha O’Bryan Center through volunteer initiatives, community outreach, and fundraising processes; and improve programmatic efficiency in reducing intergenerational poverty in families living in Cayce Place and surrounding East Nashville, our city’s most distressed community.

Job Responsibilities

  • Create various community outreach and corporate involvement strategies for the Poverty Awareness Campaign of 2025 
  • Launch a social media campaign with the Director of Marketing to bring awareness to poverty in the MOBC service area 
  • Coordinate a poverty awareness campaign with the community, businesses, and partners 
  • Draft a press release to coincide with the Poverty Awareness Campaign.  
  • Solicit and confirm at least two restaurant donation drives per quarter and drive corporate teams to participate in the events 
  • Develop a list of potential new corporate volunteer teams and consecutively reach out to the various members on this list 
  • Either a) support an existing volunteer event OR b) create a new volunteer event that can accommodate 20+ volunteers to connect larger volunteer groups with community initiatives and support organizational outreach 
  • Create a volunteer onboarding video to encourage participation and ensure understanding of tasks required and Martha O’Bryan Code of Conduct standards 
  • Participate in AmeriCorps professional development and community-building workshops 

Qualifications

Required 

  • Over 18 years of age 
  • High School diploma or GED 
  • Legally eligible to work in the U.S. (you can see the requirements here) 
  • Pass a background check to work with vulnerable populations 

Preferred: 

  • Experience working with Microsoft Suite, Google Suite, and Canva 
  • Experience in event planning and volunteer management 
  • Experience in graphic design, marketing, and/or social media  

Physical Demands & Accessibility 

  • Ability to lift and carry at least 40 lbs. (occasionally)
