With longstanding history and deep community roots, Martha O’Bryan Center (MOBC) operates programs supporting education goals for learners of all ages, empowers youth and adults in their careers, and provides stability and support services for individual families. AmeriCorps 

AmeriCorps is a federal year-of-service program. AmeriCorps VISTA builds capacity in the organizations they serve by researching, implementing, and overseeing sustainable projects. Members will serve at MOBC’s main site. Members receive a living allowance and, upon successful completion of hours, an education award of $7,395. Job Description 

As the Envision Cayce neighborhood grows and changes, the VISTA Community Outreach Specialist will focus on new and innovative ways for MOBC to serve and build relationships with the entire community. This VISTA will help plan and execute community events, assess needs in the community, and recruit families to join MOBC’s programs. ​​​​​​

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop and sustain partnerships with outside agencies for programming at MOBC 
  • Coordinate and schedule activities at MOBC to recruit new families to partake in programs and services offered 
  • Create a weekly schedule of programming activities 
  • Assist MOBC team members with sharing programming activities on social media 
  • Conduct a survey among Cayce residents regarding programming and events offered 
  • Assist in planning and executing community-wide events 
  • Recruit, train, and orient outside volunteers for MOBC’s 2-Generation and Family Success Network community events 
  • Analyze data from community events and conduct research to gain an understanding of programming and community-based needs 
  • Neighborhood canvassing  
  • Present to organizations and community members about MOBC offerings  
  • Give family tours/interest forms/share info with departments  
  • Participate in AmeriCorps professional development and community-building workshops 

Qualifications

Required 

  • Over 18 years of age 
  • High School diploma or GED 
  • Legally eligible to work in the U.S. (you can see the requirements here) 
  • Pass a background check to work with vulnerable populations 

Preferred: 

  • Experience working with Microsoft Suite, Google Suite, Canva, and other databases 
  • Experience with social media platforms 
  • Experience in non-profit organizations and working with diverse groups of people 
  • Experience in event planning and management 
  • Comfortable canvassing in East Nashville neighborhoods 

Physical Demands & Accessibility 

  • Ability to lift and carry at least 40 lbs. (occasionally)

  • $22,880 living allowance (paid out in increments twice monthly over the course of 12 months)
