Job Summary

Humanities Tennessee (HT) fosters community and civility in Tennessee through engaging programs that examine and reflect upon ideas, stories, history, arts, and culture. In addition to our own programming, we partner with a variety of organizations across the state that are similarly encouraging community dialogue and activities that push us to think deeper and develop mutual respect and understanding for each other.

HT is commemorating 50 years of public programming and launching a new initiative, Shared Futures Lab (SFL), by exploring with our digital audiences how the outcomes of our current public activities may impact the future of TN communities and civic life.

Job Responsibilities

Digital Content Creator will:

  • Become familiar with HT’s history, mission, program roster, and partners/grantees.
  • Attend select HT events, in-person and/or virtual, across the state (average 3-4/month).
  • Develop engaging content to be featured across a variety of platforms that highlight the impact and outcomes of HT’s public humanities programs. This includes, but is not limited to:
    • Writing blog posts and newsletter features
    • Creating video and photo reels and/or YouTube videos
    • Planning and executing social media posts/campaigns and subsequent engagement with online audiences  
    • Adapting content for website program archives and reports
  • Utilize research and interviews, in addition to attending programs, to inform content. 
  • Bring a creative lens to the creation and sharing of all content that achieves the following:
    • Strengthens and expands HT’s relationship with online audiences
    • Relays tangible and meaningful program outcomes and impact

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications: 

  • Superior communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proficiency across social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube) including content creation, audience engagement, and understanding meaningful analytics. 
  • A/V editing skills and basic graphic design skills utilizing Canva.
  • Ability to balance working in collaboration with staff with self-directed scheduling and deadlines.
  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in a humanities field and three years experience in public programming. 
  • References and work samples are required. 
  • Statewide travel and a valid driver’s license, proof of insurance, and access to personal transportation are required.

Location: Remote, with required travel throughout (West/Middle/East) Tennessee
Start Date: January 1 (flexible start date)
Salary: $2,000/mo. + travel expenses

What to expect:

  • Step one: All submissions will be reviewed, and the initial candidate pool will be formed. Not all submissions will make it into the candidate pool. Once the pool of candidates is established, a brief phone interview will be set up.
  • Step two: Advancing candidates will take part in an in-person interview with members of the Humanities Tennessee team. The final candidate will be selected after this interview.

Step three: Selection and placement of the final candidate. Placement for this position is anticipated to occur by January 1, 2024. Once the final candidate has accepted their offer of employment, all other candidates will be notified of their status.
