Job Summary

Mental Health America of the MidSouth (MHA) is hiring a full-time Zero Suicide Initiative Director (ZSID). Zero Suicide is a philosophy, protocol, and set of best practices to reduce suicides of patients and clients who are receiving care from a hospital, health facility, private practice, or prison/jail. The ZSID will serve as Regional Coordinator/Implementer and serve as Director of the statewide Zero Suicide initiative. This is a 5-year SAMHSA-funded position with more than 4 years remaining.  This position reports directly the MHA Program Director.

 

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide oversight and direct supervision to the other two Regional Zero Suicide Coordinators and the Program Assistant
  • Act as a Regional Zero Suicide Coordinator, implementing grant objectives throughout the Region (i.e., Middle Tennessee).
  • Provide Technical Assistance to new and current partners and agencies implementing the Zero Suicide Initiative.
  • Manage and present ZSI lectures at professional conferences, trainings, and in-services; and provide ZSI information to targeted groups as requested.
  • Provide resource linkage services and follow up to individuals as defined by the grant.
  • Facilitate learning objectives customized to organizations in different phases of Zero Suicide implementation and enhance inter-agency communication.
  • Manage gatekeeper and lethality assessment trainings and the suicide prevention program for target groups designated in the grant.
  • Develop and disseminate regional mental health resource directories, wallet cards, posters and other materials to promote access to mental health and suicide prevention services.
  • Oversee and facilitate training sessions involving the evidence-based suicide prevention training. 
  • Partner in a healthy manner with various state departments, Tennessee Suicide Prevention Network, Jason Foundation, Association of Suicide Prevention, and other partners.
  • Participate with internal and external cultural competency plans and a sustainability plan.
  • Prepare and submit reports in a timely and accurate method, as required by the grant.
  • Regularly work with program evaluators, SAMHSA liaisons, and online government portals, in order to manage and record outcomes.

Qualifications

Qualifications: A Master’s degree in social work, counseling, psychology, or related field is required. Position requires three years of experience in behavioral health, public health, or correctional health, with preferred experience working in suicide prevention or crisis intervention. Experience in training, coordinating multiple activities, developing new and innovative programs and supervising volunteers and/or field placement students is preferred

Skills: Proficiency in MS Windows and MS Office. Ideal applicants will be self-motivated in applying new methodologies, teaching, training, and instruction.

Personal Qualities: Must be able to motivate others, work as a team member, value cultural differences, resolve conflicts, and display genuine interest in working with at-risk persons and with people who want to make an impact.

Requirements: Valid Tennessee driver’s license, vehicle that can reliably be used on the job, valid vehicle insurance. Must pass standard background check. Must be able to travel 50% of the time regionally and occasionally statewide.  This is a full-time position requiring 37.5 hours per week.
