Job Summary

The Youth Program Manager (YPM) is responsible for programs and activities related to youth education, literacy, and career development; management of all related program volunteers; and collaborating with all related community partner agencies.

Job Responsibilities


Responsibilities and Essential Duties:

Achievement in the Making (AIM), the overall umbrella title, which includes: After School Mentoring, Urban Experience, Summer Day Camp and a high school Career Development Program. The YPM manages these programs and supervises related staff. The YPM must lead by example and exhibit traits that exemplify the mission and roll of the Gallatin Shalom Zone (GSZ).

  • Ensures efficient inter-program and partner communication by distributing information and resources in a timely manner.
  • Collaborates with existing partners to understand the current resources that are readily available to families.
  • Distributes information to all staff and clients.
  • Actively reaches out to, and meets with, other local community resource partners that may collaborate with the GSZ youth to provide additional services and support.
  • Engages with youth and families at the GSZ to ensure that families have access to the services and support that they need.

Additional duties:

  • Set up, staff and organize booths in the local community for special events.
  • Assist with fundraising at least twice a year as specified by the Executive Director or Board of Directors.
  • Network and communicate with local groups including other agencies, schools, religious congregations and businesses.
  • Provide the Executive Director data for reports to the Board of Directors and for grant preparation.
  • Assist in the development of grants.
  • Works closely with volunteers.


Must Haves:

The YPM must be professional, mission driven, team member, visionary, and possess strategic thinking. The YPM must have proven leadership skills, and a servant’s heart. They must possess sound writing and speaking skills; the ability to work independently; and effectively manage multiple projects, tasks and deadlines.

Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Computer literate including familiarity with word processing, spreadsheets, databases, email and the internet. Excel 2016, Outlook 2016, Micro Soft Word 2016, Publisher 2016, Windows system. Must be able to work in all forms of social media.
  • Builds relationships internally and externally through communication.
  • Demonstrates credibility in all interactions.
  • Builds a network of contacts and resources.
  • Creates and maintains high performance standards that capitalize on opportunities to build support by developing relationships that drive results.
  • Effectively communicate through oral, written and technological means; actively listen; express ideas and instructions clearly; and, plan and deliver communication that makes an impact and persuades the audience.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously; superior time management; set priorities; and manage project plans to achieve timelines established by GSZ and/or applicable grants.
  • Plans work and carries out tasks proactively; makes constructive suggestions; anticipates problems or opportunities; accepts additional responsibilities as assigned by the Executive Director and/or Board of Directors; responds to situations as they arise with minimal supervision.
  • Displays emotional resilience and the ability to withstand pressure on an on-going basis; deals with difficult situations while maintaining performance; seeks support from others when necessary and uses appropriate coping techniques.
  • Works collaboratively with others to achieve goals and objectives; continually improve team effectiveness; hold self and others accountable for team performance; motivate and encourage all members to work together in order to achieve maximum results; support group decisions and put group goals ahead of own goals; effectively interact with others.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                            Education and Experience Requirements:

Degree in a related field preferred. Experience in the nonprofit field a plus.

 Work Environment:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The employee is exposed to moderate noise levels in the work environment.  GSZ is where much of the work takes place, however there are times the YPM will be involved in activities at other locations.
