LIVE MUSIC. Studio NPL Mentor (Part Time approx. 12hrs/week – 17.25$/hr)
Studio NPL consists of library spaces with the latest technology where teens learn real world, 21st-century skills, including but not limited to creating their own robots, designing their own video games, producing their own music and films, and designing and printing 3D models and vinyl graphics. Sponsored by the Nashville Public Library Foundation, Studio spaces are staffed by professional mentors with the experience needed to guide teens through innovative 21st century learning pathways.
Studio NPL Live Music mentor: This part time position will need a high level of ENTHUSIASM and a unique combination of people skills, music skills, and technology skills. The position will have direct interaction with a diverse group of teens and staff, and a qualified candidate will be responsible for creating project-based and artifact-driven curriculum. Under general supervision of the Studio Coordinator and Lead Mentor, this position is responsible for assisting in the coordination of engaged learning activities, leading workshops that align with Studio NPL’s learning goals, and documenting and recording Studio activities for promotion and reporting. This position requires a high level of teamwork, responsibility, communication, capacity for youth mentorship as well as the ability to positively and appropriately interact with youth, adults, and the general public. In addition to typical weekday shifts between 2:00-7:00 (at least 2 days per week), the Studio NPL Mentor must be willing to work some evenings and weekends. They will be expected to work shifts at different NPL Studio locations throughout Davidson County.
- Fosters a positive, productive, and engaging environment for teens in conjunction with other mentors, staff, and volunteers.
- Leads workshops with patrons in live music which must include guitar OR piano OR percussion (additional instruments welcome).
- Leads students in setting up microphones, amplifiers, etc.
- Lead basic audio recording through Garageband, Logic, ProTools, or FL Studio.
- Assists in conducting tours and providing outreach programs for school and community groups to increase awareness and grow use of facilities and correlating virtual opportunities
- Attends mentor meetings and professional development and training around education, operation of various technological tools, and teen engagement
- Develops curriculum around targeted programming area (s)
- Assists in the daily operation of the space and technology circulation
- Maintain expertise with current technology trends, digital technologies, and education models
- Delivers post-workshop surveys and submits activity reports and attendance
- Documents and shares patron work and develops showcase opportunities, including but not limited to online platforms
- Attends meetings, workshops and continuing education courses as necessary
Associate’s Degree (or foreign-equivalent) from an accredited college or university in the area of, Music, Education, Social Services, Music, audio engineering, STEM fields, or a related field and experience working with teens in a music classroom, library, educational, recreational or social services setting including the development and implementation of teen-centered programming. The successful candidate will have demonstrable knowledge of 21st century tools and software, professional experience in a STEM field, and present a current portfolio of work for review.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Bachelor’s Degree (or foreign-equivalent) from an accredited college or university
- Demonstrated ability to interact with and engage teens positively
- Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative environment
- Clear communication skills (written and oral) and comfort speaking publicly
- Experience and fluency with new technologies and social media
- Fluency in a foreign language relevant to Nashville’s communities
- In-depth experience in more than one of our focus areas
17.25/Hr starting wage
