Job Summary
Purpose of the role
- The Carpenter is responsible, as part of a team, for the construction and fabrication of scenery and props as required for production.
Job Responsibilities
Duties
- Using technical drawings supplied by the Technical Director, the shop carpenter must work both independently and alongside other scene shop staff to accurately produce a finished project on a timely basis.
- Help maintain a safe, clean, and organized scene shop and work spaces.
- Build, maintain, modify, and repair scenery, props, sound, video and lighting equipment.
- Pack, unpack, load, and unload material and equipment moving in and out of our shop and performances spaces.
- If needed, be willing to serve as stage crew.
- Cooperate with other carpenters to help facilitate the completion of all work within the scheduled timeframe.
- Assist Properties Master, Production Carpenter, Master Carpenters and/or Lighting & Video Supervisor as needed to complete projects.
- Report any problems with deadlines, materials or conflicts within team personnel to Scene Shop Foreman.
- Assist in maintaining production budgets.
Qualifications
Qualifications
- Knowledge of a wide range of tools (hand, power, and pneumatic) and materials (wood, metal, plastic, foam) as well as experience and proficiency in a variety of welding, woodworking & carpentry techniques
- The ability to read working technical drawings
- Ability to effectively communicate both to ask informed questions and relay information to others
