ABOUT US:

Tennessee Hospital Association (THA) is a not-for-profit membership association, to serve as an advocate for hospitals, health systems, and other healthcare organizations and the patients they serve. The Association also provides education and information for its members and informs the public about hospitals and healthcare issues at the state and national levels.

As a wholly-owned, for profit subsidiary of THA, THA Center for Innovative Solutions (TCIS) seeks to provide THA member hospitals with programs and partners that deliver high clinical, financial, and operational value. To deliver these programs effectively, TCIS identifies and partners with industry leading companies. Relying on member input and industry trends, TCIS seeks to equip Tennessee hospitals with innovative solutions that address their most critical challenges.

JOB SUMMARY:

This position provides overall guidance, direction and leadership to the THA Center for Innovative Solutions (TCIS); is responsible for development of TCIS’s mission, vision and strategic goals; revenue growth for all business entities; development of new programs and services; maintenance of existing services and programs and marketing services to THA membership.  This position is responsible for and accountable to the TCIS Board and the THA Executive VP & COO.

Job Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:

  1. The ability to adapt to a changing work environment and meet challenges presented throughout the day.
  2. In conjunction with the TCIS Board, develops and manages the mission, vision and strategic plan.
  3. Oversees day-to-day activities and personnel.
  4. Identifies new programs and services to offer THA members specific to member needs and THA revenue goals and identifies vendors to provide those programs and services.
  5. Maintains member satisfaction.
  6. Works with vendors and other providers of services to THA membership.
  7. Increases member use of TCIS services.
  8. Stays abreast of member needs and priorities.
  9. Develops and manages TCIS related budget and expenses.
  10. Must be available for out-of-town travel, approximately 25 percent of the time, including overnight, be able to drive an automobile and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  11. Must be available in the office during regular office hours unless hybrid work arrangement is in place or job responsibilities require otherwise.

    • Revenue/revenue growth (maintenance/replacement of existing revenue stream, creation of new revenue sources)
    • TCIS profit/loss (within constraints of subsidiary corporation of THA)
    • Number/frequency of member use of services provided
    • Number and type of services offered

DIMENSIONS:

Dollar value:  $1,800,000 +

Number of people supervised:  4

ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE: 

  1. Vice President of Business Development:  Conceptualizes, develops, implements and manages new business ventures that bring value to THA member hospitals and THA.  Also manages and markets select existing business ventures.
  2. Director of Marketing:  The person in this position is responsible for all THA Center for Innovative Solutions (TCIS) marketing activities and opportunity tracking and for facilitating contracted TCIS vendor meetings with hospital personnel.
  3. Marketing Coordinator: Responsible for coordinating TCIS marketing activities that promote and build awareness for TCIS partner solutions, leading to partner meetings and engagement with hospital executives. Reports to Director of Marketing.
  4. Executive Assistant:  Performs administrative assistance duties for the TCIS SVP, VP of Business Development, and Director of Marketing.  Assists with TCIS Board of Directors meeting preparation and is responsible for revenue management. (Position shared with Marketing & Communications.)

 

Qualifications

Educational and experience Requirements Needed to Perform the Duties of the Job:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in health administration, business, or related field
  2. At least five years senior level operational experience in a hospital or health system
  3. Business development experience in a hospital or health system or directly with vendors that provide services to hospitals highly desired

Licensing or Other Special Certifications Required:

Certified Health Care Executive in the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) helpful but not required.

Skills Required to Perform the Duties of the Job:

  1. Must be able to take a leadership role in various activities.
  2. Must be able to build and maintain effective relationships with a variety of people, including THA members and staff and vendors.
  3. Must have a basic understanding of finance.
  4. Must be effective at making presentations to large groups of people.
  5. Must have excellent written and verbal communications skills.
