STARS has served some of our most disenfranchised populations by providing school-based prevention and intervention services, as well as intensive outpatient treatment services for adolescents with substance use and co-occurring disorders.

 

 I. Position Purpose

The STARS Restorative Practices Assistant (RPA) will be responsible for training and supporting schools implementing Restorative Practices and will provide direct assistance to students and families using the restorative practices model to improve the student’s learning experience.

As Restorative Practices Assistant will:

  • Participate on the School Leadership team and provide on-going support, training and technical assistance to teachers and staff implementing restorative practices in the classroom and throughout the school building.
  • Trained in Trauma Informed Care to support staff understanding, respond to and support students experiencing trauma.
  • Coordinate the re-entry of students returning from discipline and expulsion to increase access to wraparound supports and connection to school site staff and resources.
  • Provide short term interventions in Restorative Centers for students, staff and parents experiencing and/or causing harm to resolve the harm and restore relationships.
  • Assist with data collection, progress monitoring, and program evaluation to determine the efficacy of restorative practices and to increase safety and reduce racially disproportionate discipline and referral.
  • Coordinate with external partners and resources to ensure necessary services are provided for students.
  • Attend trainings and collaborative sessions to gain additional skills and acquire best practices.
  • Serve as a spokesperson for restorative practices; clearly articulate and explain the benefits of restorative processes.
  • Attend monthly RP Professional Development sessions in partnership with MNPS

Qualifications

III. Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in education, social work, psychology or social service related field.
  • Two or more years of related experience which includes experience working with youth preferred
  • Knowledge and experience of social service referral sources in the community.
  • Must possess leadership ability and team building skills.
  • Good human relation skills, strong verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Well-developed problem-solving skills and ability to develop conceptual alternatives.
  • Must possess the ability to implement and incorporate existing protocol, practices and policies into the work environment.
  • Must have the ability to organize, implement and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies, procedures, etc., of the business.
