Job Summary
Nations Ministry Center is looking for youth literacy team members to help refugee children become grade level readers and adjust to their new lives in Nashville. Our mission is helping refugee families become generationally successful.
Team members will work in our after-school literacy program on Monday-Thursday from approximately 2:00pm – 6:30pm when school is in session (about 18 hours a week). Additional morning hours are available while MNPS schools are meeting virtually. Program is currently a hybrid of both virtual and in-person sessions for students.
Job Responsibilities
Team members will be responsible for the following:
- Creating a safe environment in which refugee youth can thrive academically and socially
- Assisting students with an on-line literacy program and their homework
- Facilitating social and emotional learning activities
- Keeping statistics and working toward meeting grant outcomes
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Candidates will have a strong commitment to Nations Ministry Center’s mission, compassion for children who have lived through traumatic events, and a willingness to be trained in the most effective responses.
- Applicant must be able to pass a background check.
- Preference will be given to candidates that have a refugee or immigrant background and/or are proficient in one or more of the following languages: Swahili, Kinyarwanda, Arabic, Nepali, Burmese, Karen, Zomi, Somali, or Spanish.
