Job Summary

Mental Health America of the MidSouth (MHA) is a 75-year-old nonprofit that promotes mental health and wellness through education, advocacy, and service. Current programs focus on suicide prevention, anti-bullying, workplace wellness, Alzheimer’s support, multicultural outreach, screenings, referrals, and more.

MHA is hiring a Public Health and Education Manager to create and implement an innovative and engaging curriculum to train businesses, government agencies, health centers, and trade associations about managing workplace depression, toxic stress, corporate bullying, compassion fatigue, and burnout. The Manager will also provide helpful coping strategies, prescription discount cards, navigation to charitable clinics, and access to screenings. The Manager will plan and implement continuing education workshops for professionals, train external stakeholders in evidence-based curriculum, manage the online learning portal, and connect the agency with external partners.

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement clinically sound, practical Workplace Wellness workshops (both virtual and in-person) to companies, trade associations, and health centers;
  • Create and implement a research-based Workplace Wellness curriculum for a wide variety of audiences;
  • Transform the agency by taking recorded presentations, editing them, and placing them onto our online learning platform (LearnWorlds);
  • Utilize MHA’s online learning platform to create an online training portal for MHA’s internal staff;
  • Promote and assist businesses in acquiring a workplace wellness certification or seal;
  • Lead in the planning and implementation of 4-6 professional conferences (i.e., Mental Health Law, Professional Ethics, Aging & Behavioral Health, etc.), with support from other MHA staff;
  • Develop and implement needs assessments and community surveys;
  • Assist in answering the helpline and updating the West TN resource directory;
  • Prepare reports and recommendations that will be shared to organizational leadership;
  • Cross-training in other mental health curricula such as QPR or Mental Health First Aid, which will be taught to external stakeholders;
  • Supervise other program staff that focus heavily on public health or education;
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Prefer a minimum of three (3) years related experience in curriculum development and demonstrated work experience in health, behavioral health, corrections, or crisis services. 
  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, public health, education, or similar social-science degree required (Masters preferred);
  • Excellent presentation skills – a star trainer whether presenting in-person or virtually;
  • Ability to facilitate a small group discussion and present on stage to a large audience;
  • Experience in public speaking, adult education, HR, or focus group facilitation.
  • Ability to travel throughout Middle and West Tennessee with a reliable vehicle and proof of liability insurance;
  • Experience in tracking outcomes, setting up trainings, coordinating multiple activities, and developing new and innovative programs.
  • Must be able to motivate others, work as a team member, value cultural differences, resolve conflicts, and display genuine empathy;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to establish immediate rapport with CEOs, VPs, HR Directors, union leaders, mid-level managers, manufacturing employees, grassroots workers, etc.
  • Proficient in MS Office (especially PowerPoint), Eventbrite, SurveyMonkey, etc.
  • Preferred experience with online learning, website design, Canva, or graphic design;
  • Able to work occasional (rare) nights or weekends.
