Job Summary

Legal Aid Society has an immediate opening for a Project Coordinator in its Nashville office. This position will support the work of the Volunteer Lawyers Program across the 48-county service area. The Project Coordinator will conduct intakes for specific cases for which the Volunteer Lawyers Program provides representation, work with the Director of the Volunteer Lawyers Program and other attorneys to recruit lawyers for legal clinics, and develop new resources to provide representation. This position will also supervise legal help clinics across the service area that connect low-income people with free legal help. The Project Coordinator will be supervised by the Director of the Volunteer Lawyers Program and will monitor and comply with grant requirements and reporting. The schedule for this position offers a flexible 40-hour workweek that includes a mix of days, evenings, and weekends, offering a balanced and engaging work schedule. This position is funded in part by and in collaboration with one or more grants. This position is funded for the duration of the grant and subsequent renewal may result in modification of job duties and responsibilities.

Job Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and oversee 6-8 legal advice clinics per month, including 2-3 weekends per month.
  • Manage the daily intake process for potential clients of the Volunteer Lawyers Program, including by supervising any volunteers or other administrative personnel who are assisting with those intakes.
  • Communicate with law firm partners and other local attorneys to staff LAS clinics with volunteer attorneys.
  • Create and maintain positive working relationships with organizations in the service area and state which would benefit the client population.
  • Maintain and close files in an orderly and accurate fashion, adhering to company policies and guidelines.
  • Attend weekly case reviews and analyze trends in client needs and geographical location.
  • Recruit and manage non-attorney volunteers and report their time to HR.
  • Following clinics, enter data on clinic files and refer clients to appropriate resources.
  • Create VLP outreach materials including legal information brochures, educational materials for firms, and clinic flyers.
  • Attend meetings in the community and plan outreach events to educate the client population about VLP’s services.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Associate’s degree. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • 2 years prior experience working in a law office, court, social service agency, or other relevant setting.
  • Project management experience.
  • Experience working with low-income persons.
  • Basic proficiency in Windows and Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel software.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, including in client interviews and helping people in crisis.
  • Proficiency in the use of office equipment (copiers, scanners, facsimile, postage machine, etc.).
  • Fluency in written and spoken Spanish is preferred.
