Job Summary

We are searching for a Program Director (Shelter Services) to lead our Nashville Launch Pad (NLP) emergency housing program. If you have experience working with young adults (18-24 y.o.) who are unhoused, have a strong background in trauma informed care and in working with the LGTBQ+ community, please submit your resume. 

 

Job Responsibilities

Essential Responsibilities

  1. Conducts day-to-day operations of the program under the guidance of the Executive Director, including regular staff meetings and board reports. 
  2. Provides on-site supervision of both staff counselors and young adult guests. 
  3. Hire, train, develop, and supervise counselors in concert with the Executive Director.
  4. Manages scheduling and operational issues for a 24-hour staffed program including on-site crisis intervention as necessary.
  5. Coordinates and/or facilitates initial and ongoing staff development training, ensuring staff are well versed in Positive Discipline models, Adverse Childhood Experiences, Trauma Informed Care practices, Verbal De-Escalation techniques, structural and systematic racism, and effective service delivery models.
  6. Ensures coordination of volunteers and interns, providing training and supervision.
  7. Ensures implementation of and adherence to policies and procedures of NLP and program services. Suggests policy and procedure improvements as needed.
  8. Protects resident confidentiality and confidentiality of records.
  9. Provides transportation when necessary.
  10. Professionally represents NLP in an appropriate manner at relevant meetings and forums.
  11. Initiates and maintains professional working relationships with all partners including staff volunteers as well as representatives and liaisons from other agencies.
  12. Develops and maintains a resource network for referrals as related to the needs of the individuals being served at the shelter.
  13. Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift or move materials with various weights up to 30 lbs.
  • Ability to move, sit, or stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to travel throughout the community to participate in job sanctioned activities.
  • Ability to speak concisely.
  • Must have the ability to speak, hear, sit, stand, walk, reach, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • Tolerant to extreme noise levels: noise level in the work environment varies – may be very quiet to very loud.

 

Other Requirements:

  • Position requires incumbent to have a valid driver’s license, vehicle insurance, a clear driving record for the last three years and use of a personal vehicle
  • Ability to work extended or flexible hours, including nights and weekends when appropriate.
  • CPR Certified preferred.

  • Ability to maintain a rational and objective demeanor when faced with stressful or emotional situations or people and exercise sound judgment.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of the issues that face LGBTQ+ and positive youth development principles.
  • Highly organized and self-motivated, able to work efficiently on an individual basis or as part of a team.
  • Cultural sensitivity and experience in serving diverse populations.
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and ability to troubleshoot database applications.
  • Understanding and sensitivity of the intersectionality of race, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, and ability. 
  • Willingness to support the mission of NLP and ability to convey its importance both verbally and in writing.

Qualifications

  • Requires a Master’s degree in a related field of work or equivalent relevant work experience.
  • Previous leadership and team management experience is required.
  • Experience in a 24-hour residential program or related field including crisis services or shelter operations required.
  • Must have demonstrated experience working with people who are LGBTQ+
  • Must have a strong background in trauma informed practices and antiracism.
  • Ability to lift or move materials with various weights up to 30 lbs.
  • Ability to travel throughout community to participate in job sanctioned activities.
