Job Summary

Christian Community Services Incorporated (CCSI) is a non-profit organization in Nashville, TN.  CCSI has a mission to empower underserved families, through caring relationships to achieve a legacy of social, spiritual, and economic self-sufficiency (see website for details www.ccsinashville.org). The Program Assistant is responsible for assisting with program development, operation, and volunteer management aspects of the Adult Education programs including Basic Financial Training (BFT), Mentoring Towards Independence (MTI/Savers), Homebuyer Education (HBE) and other adult focused programs as needed.  Reports to the Executive Director. Central to success is a respect for, and comfort working with socioeconomically low income, and culturally diverse populations who are on a change journey striving for empowerment and self-sufficiency.

Job Responsibilities

  • Assists with recruitment of participants for the BFT, MTI, and HBE Programs
  • Works with MTI/Savers families to build relationships and provide support and encouragement
  • Leads the celebratory aspect of MTI Tuesday sessions with birthdays and sharing of successes/good news
  • Provides programming support with online, text, and other communication
  • Workshops (BFT, MTI, Savers, HBE) support and presentations as needed 
  • Assists with coordination of  BFT workshops, including registration, outreach, class scheduling, and conducting follow-up for certification, Bank On Music City and individual counseling with the Financial Counselor
  • With support from other CCSI staff, will take the lead to train, and manage the volunteers serving as mentors, tutors, food team members, guest facilitators, and ambassadors 
  • Leads in coordination of the MTI Celebration Banquet
  • Assists with other special events, such as the Annual Golf Fundraiser
  • Promotes CCSI to the community, solicit applicants and partnerships with other social service and relevant agencies
  • Become knowledgeable about MDHA, HUD, Section 8, and other relevant housing programs

Qualifications

  • 2-3 years experience working with low-income families engaged in initiatives and/or pursuing self-sufficiency
  • High school diploma or GED required.  Bachelors degree preferred, or significant field, life, and/or relevant work experience and skill set
  • Enthusiastic personality, and displays a professional and friendly demeanor in person, online, and on the telephone to facilitate the development of supportive relationships with constituent groups
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with people from diverse educational, racial, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds 
  • Experience working with, and knowledge of non-profit and social service organizations preferred
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Intermediate level or above expertise in computer programs such as Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Publisher
  • Ability to read, understand and create spreadsheets and statistical databases. Experience with SalesForce a plus
  • Ability to plan, organize, supervise, guide, and work cooperatively as a team member
  • Ability to work with volunteers and staff members in a supportive manner
  • Ability to work regular Tuesday evenings (3:00 – 8:30 pm) and occasional weekends as needed
  • Ability and willingness to lift up to 30 lbs due to transportation of materials and set up at satellite locations
